  • Editorial Review:
A 1930's gangster/detective yarn about a Kansas City police lieutenant on the trail of underworld thugs and the private detective that keeps getting in his way.

    Description of City Heat:
This was supposed to be a blockbuster: the 1984 meeting of then-box-office icons Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood. Instead, the result was surprisingly flat, though Reynolds and Eastwood have their moments. The plot is a mishmash about bootleggers, gangsters, and kidnapping in the 1930s, with Reynolds as a free-wheeling private eye and Eastwood as a jaded cop who doesn't like Reynolds's style. The two stars exaggerate their well-established screen personas, which, in Reynolds's case, was already exaggerated enough. Directed by Richard Benjamin, it's weak stuff, despite a cast that includes Rip Torn, Madeline Kahn, Tony Lo Bianco, and Jane Alexander. The big running gag is about the size of Eastwood's gun. --Marshall Fine

    City Heat Reviews:
Spoofing the private eye and hard nosed cop movies 4 Star Review
2009-12-07 - Clint Eastwood and Bert Reynolds star in this light hearted spoof of the hard nosed private eye and cop movies.
Reynolds is the smart a$$ private eye and Eastwood is the hard as nails cop in this romp into the 1930s as they battle bootleggers,
gangsters, and each other. Eastwood often plays straight man to Reynolds wisecracking character.
There are many gags and laughs in the film, but it`s what I call a soft spoof. It`s not a wild crazy spoof like "Airplane", It`s
more along the lines of the western spoof "My Name is Nobody". Rather than go for wild crazy gags, they exaggerate the tough guy
movie just enough to make it funny. And it works well.

Great entertainment - Loved this one 5 Star Review
2009-06-14 - Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds and Madeline Kahn outdo themselves with witty, well-written dialogue. This movie is full of everything you love about Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds. Plenty of action and comedy. A must see for any Clint Eastwood or Burt Reynolds fan.

    City Heat 5 Star Review
2009-04-13 - Amazon was great! Easy to work with and easy to follow. The price was outstanding and the shipping cost was minimal. Overall, an outstanding experience!

Completely underrated movie 5 Star Review
2008-12-10 - I'm not sure what people expected of this movie, but if you forget about who the actors are in this movie and just watch it for fun, it's a hoot! Sure, the plot's a little thin, but it's a comedy, who cares. Enjoy, it's fun and funny.

Very funny and underrated 5 Star Review
2007-09-01 - I think the humor in this film is a little to sophisticated for most Clint and/or Burt fans but this is a great movie. This is a very intelligent comedy that many people just wont get. I have read that people think the actors gave wooden preformances, that's what the parts call for. This film has some great scenes, especially Clints fight scenes.
