Description of Parachutes:
Music doesn't come more touching than this. With their debut single alone, the emotion-fortified "Shiver," Coldplay prove they can shift between elated and crushed in a breath, as singer Chris Martin pours out music's oldest chestnut (unconditional yet unrequited love) with the shakiest of voices and a backdrop of epic guitars. For 10 tracks on Parachutes, he adds newfound meaning to the most tired and overused rock sentiments--love found, love lost, love unrequited--over acoustic guitars and emotionally fraught rock. And for once, all the clichés ring true because Chris Martin genuinely sounds like a man picking over the bones of his life, coming up with just as many reasons to be cheerful as seriously depressed. Not that Parachutes is a depressing album--there's too much conviction to the guitars and hope in Martin's words for that. Instead it's a beautifully tender balance that comes as close to perfection as anything that's come before it. --Dan Gennoe
Parachutes Reviews:
Pass the No-Doz, please
2009-10-10 - Coldplay is perennially overrated. It's kind of a mass-marketed attempt to create 'progressive' music aimed at radio. With amazingly sappy lyrics and some of the worst over-production I've ever heard, their music is just a notch above elevator music. In fact, it seems well suited for ESPN or NFL Films productions, and maybe stadium play.
I spent a bunch of money on a fair amount of Coldplay's music and have listened through several times only to conclude that I wasted a lot of cash. Not sure where all the love comes from, but it's hardly challenging musically, nor is it all that enjoyable. For Parachutes, X&Y and Viva LaVida, I give them all passing grades - good enough for radio and maybe sports films, but not for a true progressive music fan. This stuff can't be listened to during the daytime - it's a sure sleep aid. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.....
product was fine, but the case was not in that great condition
2009-07-14 - the cd works fine, but the case is not in very good condition. all in all, the cd is what counts so i am mostly satisfied
Parachutes
2009-06-15 - I was very disappointed with the purchase. The seller described the product to be in "like new condition". I anticipated receiving the disc in the original packaging (along with the cover)as though it were purchased brand new from a store. The disc itself was in fine condition. However, it came in a clear plastic case. I don't think the cd should have been advertised as being in "like new condition." The music by Coldplay is great and the disc is definitely worth purchasing, particularly if you like all of their other cd's but don't own this one.
Coldplay's Best Album
2009-06-12 - Simply fantastic! Coldplay has scored with all of their albums, but this is far and away their best. I think what sets it apart is it's careful attention to vulnerable melody... it literally gives me goosebumps (listen to "We Never Change" and reintroduce yourself to a Coldplay that undersings, underplays and sounds flat amazing.) Other Coldplay albums are also well worth picking up! Perhaps in this order:
Parachutes
X&Y
Rush of Blood to the Head
Viva La Vida/Propekt's March EP
great album!
2009-05-31 - A great album with hit songs and includes my personal favorites: sparks, yellow, and trouble. Coldplay albums never seem to disappoint!
