Editorial Review:
With over 20 million albums sold worldwide, eight Top 5 singles, and three records that have broken the Top 5 on the Billboard 200, COUNTING CROWS are set to release their long awaited new album SATURDAY NIGHTS & SUNDAY MORNINGS. The record is the Crows' first studio album in almost 5 years, since the release of Hard Candy in 2002.

Description of Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings:
Given the churning tides of fashion and fate, six years can often feel more like an eternity in pop music. Yet Counting Crows' first studio album since 2002 bristles with an urgent energy that makes their creative restlessness almost palpable. The Crows haven't so much reinvented their roots-conscious ethos here, as shrewdly divided it along the album title's thematic lines: "Saturday night is when you sin," explains singer Adam Durwitz "and Sunday is when you regret. Sinning is often done very loudly, angrily, bitterly, violently." Thus, the band indulges itself in a raucously loose-limbed opening half that freewheels from the snarling Gil Norton/Steve Lillywhite produced blast at betrayal "1492," through a Stones-y, left-handed country-rock ode to "Los Angeles," and the irony of "Sundays"' no less pop-savvy angst. That mood shifts dramatically with the opening acoustic guitar notes of the lovely "Washington Square," heralding a mood of reflective redemption that characterizes the album's closing chapter that showcases the band's potent folk sensibility via the earthy studio aura of Modest Mouse/Iron & Wine producer Brian Deck. If it's only half the long-rumored "unplugged" album so many Crows' fans have anticipated, Durwitz's ever soulful lyrical intrigues, the songs' far-ranging moods and adventurous sonic textures - which encompass the spare, haunting beauty of "Le Ballet d'Or," and even a little of Brian Wilson's harmonic glories on the close of "Anyone But You" - deliver so much more. --Jerry McCulley

Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings Reviews:
Good disc 4 Star Review
2009-11-22 - It's a good LP with good songs, good music and pretty voice. I like it.

One of their best 5 Star Review
2009-07-28 - If I can put a CD in and let it play nonstop, over and over again, to me thats the sign of a great album. Just like August and Everything After, I can play this CD over and over again and not get tired of it. Im no music reviewer but this CD has, in my opinion, alot of the grittiness that made August and Everything after so appealing. Its not some effort to make a bubble-gum record. If youre a true fan of their music, youll love this CD.

A Aquired Taste 5 Star Review
2009-06-18 - When I was little, I hated Coffee. It was not so much that it was disgusting, it was just that I did not get it. it was so different from anything I had tried before. A few more sips of coffee later and i could not put the stuff down.

So, when I turned on 1492, my mouth dropped. This was not Counting Crows. This was a bit heavier than alot of there stuff. I did not like it for the simple fact that I was not used to it. But, as iA listened to the album again and again, i think I udnerstood what "Saturday nights, and Sunday Mornings' is really about.

Alot of bands like to do the same style of music, over and over again. This is not the case for this album. Alot of bands like to totally change their sound, this is not the case with this Album. This Album shows a evolution of the Counting Crows, and features the widest range of music styles I have seen on a Counting Crows Album.

Without a doubt, "Cowboys" is the best song on the album. The Adam's lyrics and voals are filled with so much anger and emotion, you can't help but me moved by it. "When I Dream of Michael Angelo" is another one of my favorites. And, the fact we cango from 'Cowboys to the lovely balled "Le Ballet D'or" is incredible. "Le Ballet D'or" is another different song for the Crows. As much as I hate to admit it, I cried the first time I heard it.

The one song I really do not like on this album is "On a Tuesday in Amsterdam Long Ago" really overstays its welcome. I am not too crazy about "Anyone But you". It starts out great, but the end just gets weird. I also find that some of the guitar solos in "Cowboys" and "1492" seem a bit self-indulgent at times (Don't get me wrong, I love these two songs)

I think this might be the best Counting Crows album since "Recovering the Satellites." What makes this album for me is how great the great songs are. Even the weaker songs still have something to offer This album shows the range of styles of the Counting Crows, and is worth a buy.

Not their best 3 Star Review
2009-04-17 - After repeated listening I would say Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings is not their finest work. The Saturday half is just noisy and the Sunday half felt watered down. The overall album seemed weak. That said, some bright spots I really enjoyed were Insignificant, which was vintage, and Le Ballet d'Or, which was just beautiful. If you're a fan there's no reason not to pick this up. Just don't expect too much.

Wonderful as always 5 Star Review
2009-02-08 - The CC could never disappoint and they didn't with this album. I am a huge fan of their unique sound. This is a great addition to their discography. I highly recommend it.
