Editorial Review:
And so to 2006, where Cradle Of Filth find themselves in the enviable position of being in a league and class of their own. Having long since outstripped the achievements of their one-time contemporaries, the band is now firmly entrenched in a rich vein of form. The current line-up of Dani Filth, guitarists Paul Allender and Charles Hedger, bassist Dave Pybus and drummer Adrian Erlandsson is the most solid and powerful in the band's career and Thornography is the resounding, conclusive proof. With songs as brutish, bombastic and diverse as Libertina Grimm, Tonight In Flames, Cemetery & Sundown, I Am The Thorn, The Byronic Man (featuring HIM's Ville Valo on guest vocals) and a deranged cover of Heaven 17's '80s pop gem Temptation, the world's biggest and best extreme metal band have never sounded so exhilarating, so vital, so venomous.
Thornography Reviews:
I simply love it
2009-09-01 - I know some fans don't like this album because some songs are not pure noise like all the other albums. I like it because it's the only Cradle Of Filth album I can listen to without having to turn down the volume or skip tracks. Also, there's much more musicality that in their previous efforts. Good buy!
Needs reordering, gets better with listens
2009-05-06 - The first time I listened to Thornography I was not very pleased. I heard lackluster, unenergetic, whatnot and was left with a "what was that?" after effect. Then I listened again and yet again and started to realize some very key things that made me like this album quite a bit. I came to think that if this wasn't cradle of filth, this album would be considered a breakthrough from just about any other band. I also realized that some of it started to sound like the Nightmare before Christmas soundtrack, also very interesting. And then, as I listened again I found myself anticipating and singing with various riffs and melodies. But still there was something very off. And I discovered it, the song order. The song order is off. Songs should be rearranged, and Temptation should be a hidden song, or completely off the album... Also the drumming should be stepped up in a few areas, not blast beats continuously but definate added intracasy
So anyway, I appreciate the album more now then I had, still one of my least favs though. Dare I say that to Godspeed...I'll have to have a few more listens
not too bad
2009-02-28 - okay yeah this album is way more poppy then there other stuff. but its still got good songs and catchy hooks. so its not so bad. i would recomend you buy it if you can find it used.
Excellent from start to finish.
2008-10-06 - Before Thornography, the only other COF album I had was Midian. While I liked Midian alot, I LOVE Thornography. When I bought it, it was the only thing i listened to for months. It may not be as fast as some of their previous work but I think it's purely orgasmic. I can't wait to get more of their CDs.
best cd out of all of them
