The girl who just wanted to have fun has matured into a sensitive interpreter of eclectic standards. Taking a cue from Rod Stewart Cyndi Lauper applies her formidable pipes to an eclectic collection of covers that range from a few Edith Piaf tunes ("La Vie En Rose" and "Hymn to Love") to classics from the songbooks of Bacharach/David, Etta James, and Smokey Robinson. Although there are some upbeat tracks such as the remarkably authentic Specials-styled ska of a radically reworked "Sunny Side of the Street," a rather forced but fun duet with Tony Bennett on "Makin’ Whoopee," and the cha-cha, Ricky Ricardo-ized version of Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs' "Stay," the album predominantly floats in a sober, pensive mood. Piano and subtle orchestrations add tension to sensitive readings of "Unchained Melody," "Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood," and an eerily somber "Walk on By." The effect is haunting and intimate as Lauper unleashes her inner Tori Amos. Shifting "You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me" into an aching ballad, the singer shows her remarkable vocal range and interpretive ability. Lauper's voice sparkles throughout, especially without the overproduction that has marred some of her previous efforts. As its title infers, At Last finally shows her true colors. --Hal Horowitz

My instant new "Go To" CD 
2009-11-30 - Cyndi Lauper's unique vocal talents are showcased well in this mellow CD. Her voice seems made for these classic songs.
My personal favorites:
Walk On By: Cyndi gives such a sad, plaintiff sound to this Dionne Warwick classic. She really makes you feel the pain of watching someone you love walk by with another person.
Unchained Melody: This song has been so over played, I didn't think I would find it appealing...but again, Cyndi's unique take on the song and her glorious sound made this song new for me again.
Until You Come Back To Me: I love it-- my favorite on the CD. The arrangement is fun and different, and it makes me sing it out loud everytime. I would buy this entire CD just for this song.
If you shied away from Ms Lauper because of her crazy antics or too frentic energy songs, take a chance on this one. You will be impressed and enjoy the hidden vocal control that this truly unique singer brings.
Cyndi, Dull??? Yep, Unfortunately 
2009-08-06 - I'm the 548th person to review this CD and only 53 have reviewed the brilliant She's So Unusual. That's inexplicable, especially since this CD is just, well, so usual. And that's its problem. Cyndi aims for diva stardom and hits tepid. At Last is a macro for all the other cuts -- there's nothing wrong with her version; I just don't believe it or get moved by it. Not even with Cyndi dressed up on the cover and NYC lit up by moonlight behind her. It doesn't sound like true love at last -- it just sounds like an opening cut and that's the problem throughout, a CD long on rich production and short on emotion.
Great Nostalgia 
2009-07-17 - Cyndi demonstrates the full range of her talent in this nostalgic release of old and good songs. I found myself laughing and reflecting on each new song. Great stuff.
Vintage Cyndi Fun
2009-07-05 - This is a great CD and a must for any Cyndi Lauper fan. I've gifted it several times to friends who've had the same reaction. On top of the usual Cyndi fun, there are duets ("Makin' Whoopee" w/Tony Bennett), and a wonderful Stevie Wonder harmonica cameo on "'Til you come back to me".
At Last - Rock Walk on By
2008-04-08 - This is a strong cd. The more you listen, the more it grows on you. I have been a HUGE fan of Cyndi since She's so Unusual hit the air. And go see her whenever I can in concert. One of my most favorite was her rock version of Walk on By she did in Biloxi - just before Katrina hit. It is actually one of my favorite covers and favorite Cyndi covers. Better than the original and even better than the cd/album version. I wish this would come out as a single. The mini cd with Walk on By versions don't even do it justice. Cyndi is awesome in concert, I guess you can't bottle that on a studio cd.
