Description of Good Luck Chuck (Unrated Widescreen Edition):
In a perfect world, Good Luck Chuck would've captured the humor of Superbad and the raunch of the American Pie films. But what we're left with, instead, is a raunchy film with an anemic storyline. Cursed as a child with a hex that prevents him from finding true love, Charlie "Chuck" Logan (Dane Cook) finds that the women he dates find the men of their dreams immediately after they've dumped him. For a guy who enjoys dating beautiful women, it doesn't seem like such a horrible thing. But then he meets and falls for beautiful and klutzy Cam Wexler (Jessica Alba). Charlie wants to have a meaningful relationship with her, but how can he make her fall in love with him without losing her to some unknown man waiting to sweep her off her feet? Good Luck Chuck isn't an original movie; Cook and Alba make for an attractive couple that exudes warm chemistry. And Alba proves that while she may be famous for her body, she's quite adept at physical comedy. Dan Fogler doesn't fare as well. He has the thankless role of playing Charlie's obnoxious best friend Stu, a borderline perv plastic surgeon who proudly displays a set of Pamela Anderson's breast implants in his office (which, coincidentally enough, is located right next door to Charlie's). The dialogue is crass and the direction is all over the place. Everything is played for laughs, but little actually is very funny in this comedy. This movie actually could've used a bit more good luck. And lots more wit. --Jae-Ha Kim
Good Luck Chuck (Unrated Widescreen Edition) Reviews:
Don't Buy This Ever!
2008-08-26 - I like Dane Cook in other films, likable, comedic actor, easy to laugh, but Good Luck Chuck, I warn you, it is AWFUL. Do not watch this stupid gross out of a movie. Even the girls without their clothes doin' the deed, come on, this is a date flick, maybe in a sleasy theater downtown wearing a raincoat. DO NOT RENT THIS FILM!
funniest movie I saw in quite some time
2008-08-20 - I personally found this movie to be quite funny. There were some hilarious scenes and one liners. I am thick skinned so the movie did not offend me but I guess some people who are not as thick skinned as I may have a problem with certain overtones of the movie. If one is that sensitive they should not take it out on giving the movie a bad review. I found this to be very funny and my fiance' and I laughed all the way through the movie.
Love Love Love it!!!
2008-08-11 - This movie is really cute I enjoyed it so much. Jessica Alba is so funny, I didn't know how funny she was. Anybody who wants a laugh watch this movie. Beware it can be a bit sexual... including Dane Cooks love making scene with the stuffed animal. A Must See!
So-So Movie
2008-07-24 - Movie is very adult oriented with strong sexual suggestions as well as some drug use. It was an ok movie and I love Jessica Alba's work but I don't think I would have wanted to see this movie at the theater.
Good Luck to Everyone involved with this movie...
2008-07-11 - Mr. Bernabo and Ms. Richards wrote all the true words in their reviews to warn me away, but the opportunity to see more "on-screen Jessica Alba" was so overpowering, I went on and watched it anyway. Was I ever sorry!
Dane Cook and Dan Fogler are two of the worst actors I've ever seen. As best as I can remember (I'm trying hard to forget this movie) all of the humor was based on two guy sidekicks saying the most inappropriate words at all the most inappropriate times imaginable. I cannot think of a role either actor would be suited for. It's not even worth a review -- think of this as a warning to your entertainment welfare.
The writing for this movie was just awful. And lord knows I adore Jessica Alba, but even that darling couldn't make this movie worth watching.
An overall abysmal effort.
