  • Editorial Review:
Tall Tales and Legends is a collection from America’s favorite storyteller, Shelley Duvall. This series of quality family programming can be enjoyed by both parents and children. In this adapted version of the classic American folk-song Shelley Duvall portrays Clementine, who although a little clumsy, has a heart of gold, something which is ironically taken for granted in a camp full of gold-hungry miners. Extensive print advertising including ads in TimeOut New York Kids, Popular Mechanics, Parenting, Child, FamilyFun, Mothering, Parents and Working Mother. Broad publicity campaign including radio, broadcast and online.

Description of Shelley Duvall's Tall Tales & Legends - Darlin' Clementine:
The American folksong makes it clear that Clementine is lost and gone forever, but how, and why? This Shelley Duvall production gives the titular gal a face (Duvall herself), a gold-struck miner of a father (Ed Asner), and several suitors to explain her story. The lone woman in a California mining camp, Clementine whips up baked beans for her father and the boys, and entertains them with her outrageous costumes and sunny innocence. A bespectacled nomad (David Dukes) joins the camp and falls for her, but Dad tries to broker marriage with a couple of scary but successful gold miners instead. The resulting tragedy is not belabored, and is handled in a good-natured way that will not disturb most children. Randy Newman narrates and sings the famous song, and a pre-Seinfeld Michael Richards makes a Kramer-free appearance as Sneaky Pete in this amiable 46-minute video. This is a good Movie 5 Star Review
2005-03-31 - This is a good family film and Shelly Duvaul is a good actress. I saw her in "The Shining" and she was terrific.

I loved this movie 5 Star Review
2005-03-30 - This is my favorite movie that was ever made in the world! It is a good movie and I love it!

Shelley Duvall is a genius producer!! 4 Star Review
2001-06-04 - Folk tales and fairie tales are great. I really enjoyed this film. I enjoy it just as much as the Fairie Tale Theatre Series which she produced. This is a wonderful film for adults and children alike!! I highly recomend it!!!

    Enjoyable fluff! 3 Star Review
2000-01-30 - Shelley Duvall herself stars as the title character of this episode of her Tall Tales and Legends series, and her performance alone makes this worth seeing. This is lightweight romantic fare made watchable by an incredibly likeable cast. Duvall is wonderful of course, as are David Dukes as Levi Strauss (the blue jeans guy!) and Ed Asner (of Mary Tyler Moore fame) as Clementine's pop. There's not a whole lot to the story, yet it doesn't maintain the goofy charm of the old 49er's song on which it is based. Given the potential of the cast, this is somewhat a disappointment. However, it boasts a terrific opening sequence and score by Randy Newman. And, like I said, there's really nothing to dislike here; it just doesn't amount to much of anything in the end.
