Editorial Review:
As the front man of Hootie & The Blowfish, Darius Rucker has already experienced success - earning 2 Grammy awards and selling over 25 million albums worldwide. Now, embracing his country roots and a music he has always wanted to make, Darius is attracting the attention of country fans who are discovering his voice for the first time, and rewarding Hootie fans with new music featuring one of the most unique voices across any genre of music. Featuring his debut country single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It", Learn to Live features 12 undeniable country hits and a voice that is unarguably Darius Rucker. "I have always written country songs...for me, this is really just part of the natural evolution of my career. I plan to be doing this for a long time. This isn't a one album deal - it's a career thing," explains Rucker.

Description of Learn To Live:
As the lead singer and co-writer for Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker always eschewed overt R & B, and fixed the band’s music in roots rock. Now on this solo album, Learn to Live, he immerses himself in the typical Nashville themes of home, hearth, and spirituality, with varying results. His sturdy baritone knows how to carry these messages, and he displays an ease with country phrasing. Furthermore, he's assembled a fine passel of pickers, from mainstream guests Vince Gill, Alison Krauss and Brad Paisley, to 'grassers Aubrey Haynie and Bryan Sutton. All this works fine on the radio—the album and the single "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," which logged the number one slot on the country charts. But while Rucker pays fine homage to Buck Owens with the intro to the humorous divorce declaration "All I Want," and nurtures his inner redneck on the barroom anthem "Drinkin' and Dialin'," too many clichés weave their way into his lyrics, and the overall sound is that of amiable, cookie-cutter, country pop. Next time out, let’s hope Rucker reaches farther back into his South Carolina roots for a more authentic backwoods connection. -– Alanna Nash

Learn To Live Reviews:
A must have for you music collection 5 Star Review
2009-12-02 - I didn't know who Darius Rucker was until I watched the CMA awards. I had heard alot of his music, but didn't know who sang it.He is awesome!! I love everyone of his songs! He sings with a lot of compassion. This is a must have for your CD collection.

Darius is not country! Go back to pop music..... 1 Star Review
2009-11-26 - Darius is as country as a city skyscraper. I'm tired of failed pop stars (Bon Jovi, Darius Rucker, Jessica Simpson, Poison's lead singer, etc.) coming over and playing suburban country-listeners like the fools they are. Leave our music alone. Alan Jackson, George Strait, Vince Gill, Brad Paisely are fine examples of modern country that stayed true to country for the most part.

a golden nugget shining brightly 5 Star Review
2009-11-12 - This album from Darius Rucker is full of brilliant songs! These numbers are very well done and Darius clearly possesses a rare type of genius for this art form. The quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is nicely done.

This CD has awesome songs and ballads and there's really not a single dud in the bunch. "Forever Road" starts the track set with a high energy tune that gets me tapping my feet to the beat even without my being conscious of it--great! The guitars are wonderful and the overall musical arrangement complements Darius' vocals very well. "All I Want" is excellent country music with Brad Paisley on guitar; and I really like "Don't Think I Don't Think about It" is a powerful, poignant ballad I won't forget anytime soon.

"Learn To Live," the title track, shines bright as Darius sings this out with genuine passion and it all holds its own very well. "If I Had Wings" is another moving ballad that Darius aces as effortlessly as if it were mere breathing; this track features backup vocals from Vince Gill and Alison Krauss. Not that Darius needed backup, but they certainly do sound very good. "History in the Making" is also wonderful; and there's yet another gem in "Alright." Terrific!

"Drinkin' And Dialin'" impresses me a lot; and "While I Still Got the Time" has that fantastic country flavor I enjoy so much. The album ends with "Be Wary of a Woman;" Darius does this without letting go of a single superfluous note and that's grand.

Not only is this album a must have for fans of Darius Rucker; it's also a great starter CD for people just discovering his artistry especially as a country music performer. We are all better off for Darius Rucker sharing his talent with us; and if we're lucky he'll continue to entertain us all for many, many years to come. Thank you, Darius Rucker--you are truly a country music champion!
