Editorial Review:
Worley's self-titled effort begins optimistically enough with "Awful Beautiful Life," a microcosm of life's joys, frustrations, and sorrows that he co-wrote with Harley Allen. It and the throwaway "Was It Good for You" cover the upbeat side. Otherwise, this is a dour, dark collection fraught with shattered relationships, occasional violence, death, and alcohol-soaked pessimism. The album's war song, "If Something Should Happen," personalizes overseas troops' anxiety about family at home. Clever arrangements mesh with Worley's flawless performances, particularly the sparse New Orleans-flavored "Work and Worry," a clever cautionary about laboring oneself into the grave. "If It Hadn't Been For Love," the lament of a stalker who went too far, is both lyrically and musically foreboding. Worley clearly doesn't see patriotism merely in terms of flag-waving. He co-wrote "Wake Up America," which graphically laments small-town America's raging hard-drug epidemic. Given radio's continuing obsession with upbeat, flippant fluff, it's to his credit he eschewed rose-colored glasses to focus on what Porter Wagoner once called "The Cold Hard Facts of Life." --Rich Kienzle

Darryl Worley Reviews:
Darryl hits the mark!! 5 Star Review
2009-12-06 - Darryl Worley is, in the opinion of many (myself included) one of the most underrated country music stars working today. His songs are full of heartfelt emotion and range from unabashed toe-tappers to wipe-your-eyes tear jerkers. I've owned this album since it came out having primarily bought it for Awful Beautiful Life but with each new listening I find more and more cuts which hit the mark. The recent debacle with Tiger Woods is perfectly summed up by the cut "What Makes A Man Do That?" Give it a listen, it's really special. The production on the album is top-notch and his band mates, "The Krew", are as good as they get in this business.

Have you ever wanted to ram ice picks in both your ears? 1 Star Review
2008-09-24 - On our way from Kansas City, MO to Albuquerque, NM last week, somewhere near Amarillo TX, this song came on the radio. My wife and I laughed and laughed at first. "Who could write a song this bad?" I thought with a smug smile on my face.

Then terror came over me as I wondered, "Who could like a song this bad?" Of course, I WAS in Texas. But still...

This guy is a no-talent as.s clown with a penchant for cliche yung kuntry choruses and pathetic attempts to cash in on jingoist sentiments with lyrics like "have you forgotten about Bin Laden?"

Do the world a favor and don't buy this idiot's music

2008-01-05 - Darryl Worley's self-titled CD for Dreamworks is my introduction to the singer. Good reviews and a bargain used price induced me to take a chance on the disc. Darryl's sound is mainstream Nashville country. "If Something Should Happen" is a standout track with the singer worried about a potentially fatal disease and its effect on his children. It's an emotionally laden track with great appeal. My favorite track on the CD is the Mike Henderson/Chris Stapleton penned "If It Hadn't Been Love." The melody has a catchy hook and a great sense of urgency as it gradually dawns on us that the singer is imprisoned for the murder of his love, "If it hadn't been for love, I never woulda loaded up a forty four & put myself behind a jailhouse door if it hadn't been for love." Other tracks like the slow-song "If I Could Tell the Truth" & the country boogie "Work & Worry" are good. Enjoy!

2005-09-24 - This album is a must to add to your cd collection.

Darryl Worley Self Titled CD 5 Star Review
2005-09-23 - I purchased Darryl's first CD back in 2000. I was so impressed with the first one and each one there after has only gotten better. The 4th one, self-titled CD is just a more up beat type of style. You get more opportunities to really grove with the beat of the music while staying true to his traditional country roots. You think this one is great, wait till you hear the next one.
