Due to the overwhelming demand for more following the release of the first volume of songs from Matthews & Reynold's 1999 live album, Hal Leonard has created a second volume! Typical Situation ? Warehouse.
Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds: Live at Luther College Vol. 2 (Play It Like It Is) Reviews:
I Love this Book
2005-10-14 - I've been a huge Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds fan for a while now, and all others who love their music will know that the improv and particular chords used in Live at Luther seeem almost impossible to mimic simply by hearing it. This book brings your favourite songs from Live at Luther to your finger tips with spectacular accuracy.
A must have.
If you get just one DMB tab book...
2005-05-28 - ...This should be it. Take it from me-- I have all of them, and this is the best one... so far. (Some Devil comes close.)
As previous reviewers have noted, this book includes all the songs left out of the previous volume (which is also excellent). However, they didn't mention that this book is (or at least seems) significantly heftier-- it includes the songs with the long intros and outros, like "Two Step" and "Warehouse".
The transcription of "#41", one of my favorite songs, is perfect. I could never get the chords to sound right before, and now it's easier than ever. "Jimi Thing" is great-- this book includes the extended "What will become of me?" coda. All the others are fantastic as well. Every transcription in here is worth having (except maybe the super-short and -simple "Halloween", but it's still good). Tim Reynolds' solos-- also perfectly transcribed-- are ingenious, though I don't have the ability to do them justice, I'm afraid.
DMB is at their best live, and at the heart of that is Dave's guitar playing. His style is so much freer than in the studio, and this album with Tim showcases his songwriting and guitar ability beautifully.
Thorough
2005-03-05 - This is the book I was waiting for, a few more of the non-mainstream D + T songs not played often on radio or other media outlets. I also like the little extras that were included and played on the Live at Luther College CD, like "What Will Become of Me" at the end of "Jimi Thing", and the alternate beginning to "Tripping Billies".
This may not be the best book for novice musicians, however, as the transcriber is quite thorough. Each crazy chord is outlined at the beginning of each song, and there are usually plenty of them, which definitely helps. By listening to the CD enough, and following the music in the book, you can easily follow along. Good book. Thanks. I'm having fun with it.
Song List is Good
2004-05-13 - It has all of the songs that volume one does not have like tripping billies, dancing nancies, two step and more. Good Buy.
