The String Quartet Tribute to Dave Matthews Band Reviews:
Is this some kind of a joke
2009-05-05 - Now I enjoy classical music very much with a strong emphasis on Vivaldi, Bach and Pachelbel. So I trully appreciate string quartets. So I was looking forward to this CD because it adds one of my other musical favorites Dave Matthews.
I do not know who the London Contemporary String Ensemble is or if they are in any way afiliated with London Philharmonic...but I am guessing NO. Terrible performance they sound like high school students experimenting. Did they even listen to different renditions before they recorded? I think the violinist was the worst of the bunch and that person was duplicating the voice. It may have been better if they had had a better violinist and added a Bass or even a guitar (after all a guitar has strings).
I know this cd is worthless because...the used cd shop only offered me $2 even though they had no other copies.
Why did they not invite Boyd Tinsley from DMB to be one of the performers? He certainly would have given it a more feeling and emotion.
I have heard other pop music knock offs from this group and they are equally as bad.
Dissapointed
2005-08-16 - As a huge DMB fan and a string player (cellist) myself, I was expecting more from this recording. It lacks energy, big time. Many of the songs feel under tempo and sloppily put together. The arrangements are great, it just doesn't seem to flow from there. Maybe I'll learn to love it, but right now after a few initial plays, it just doesn't sit well with me.
The Dave Matthews Band deserves a better tribute
2005-06-24 - While the tracks on this CD remain true to their inspirations and are very nice, the overall quality is lacking. The London Contemporary String Ensemble sounds much more impressive until you actually listen to the CD. I would recommend this CD to any big Dave fan - just take advantage of the ability to buy it used or discounted.
AmAzInG (especially sAtTeLiTe!)
2005-03-14 - This CD is so amazing. So good that you can hear the music in your stomach. I love it, one of my best finds. At least in my top 5. Buy it. Love it. Put it on 'repeat'. Dig it. I sure do!
Close your eyes
2005-01-27 - One of the best ways to look at an artist/band's music with a new perspective is to track down some form of tribute, and the string quartet are the masters at it. I've often wondered if DMB would sound as good without Dave's famous voice, and this tribute captures all the magic of the band's music with that added clincher of being strings only. It's hard to listen without singing all your favourite lines along the way, but if you take the time to sit down, close your eyes and let the music carry you away you'll love DMB from this new, beautiful angle as much as I do...
