Recorded live at Warren Haynes 18th Annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, NC on December 16th, 2006 at the Asheville Civic Center, The Benefit Concert Volume 8 is the third release in an on-going series documenting the annual concerts. As with each previous benefit, all proceeds from this series of concerts and CD and DVD releases benefit Habitat For Humanity, an international non-profit organization dedicated to building housing for those in need of shelter.
The 2006 concert saw Warren Haynes put together a stellar lineup of musicians featuring Gov t Mule, Dave Matthews, The New Orleans Social Club, Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, The Taj Mahal Trio and The John Popper Project featuring DJ Logic. Warren Haynes also welcomed very special guests Randall Bramblett, Taylor Hicks, Branford Marsalis, Mike Barnes, Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson & Family), Brendan Bayliss (Umphrey s McGee), Kevn Kinney (Drivin N Cryin), Robert Kearns (The Bottle Rockets) and Dave Schools (Widespread Panic).
The Benefit Concert Volume 8 offers more than 3 hours of incredible music from The New Orleans Social Club s version of Creedence Clearwater Revival s Fortunate Son featuring Branford Marsalis to Gov t Mule and Dave Mathews scorching cover of Neil Young s Cortez The Killer to the all-star I Shall Be Released finale.
Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Volume 8 Reviews:
Warren Haynes
2008-11-24 - I am a fan of Warren Haynes period. However this Dvd just lagged. I had hoped that the Dvd would have been better. I guess when you recored and tour all the time things great are what the end result should be.
I think that this is what kills most jam or jam bands they all have so many shows out there by way of legal or bootlegers. I hope one day Warren will do a great solo live album/Dvd release with a gret all-star band but til then we will have in our collection what's out there.
If you are a Warren Haynes fan and have attended his Christmas Jams then you will love this release. I am one who loves him and his music with or without the Allman Brothers or Gov't Mule.
Warren Haynes & Gov't Mule + Allstars:Taj Mahal Trio, John Popper Project,Marty Stuart, New Orleans Social Club,+ Collaborations
2008-08-05 - This is a 5 star concert dvd in all aspects. First, the net proceeds from this concert and dvd go to "Habitat for Humanity". Second, you get an Allstar Lineup consisting of: Dave Matthews, The John Popper Project (formerly related to "Blues Travler"), Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, The New Orleans Social Club, The Taj Mahal Trio, and many others. Third, you get "Once in a lifetime" collaborations among these allstars. This concert is one of the greatest of all time, but somehow the word is not getting out about how good it is. That is way I'm updating my review!!!
Warren Haynes, who is a member of the Allman Brothers Band, has his own band "Government Mule". He has been doing this benefit concert in Ashville, North Carolina for 18 years. Now, the music, it begins with a pre-jam session at a small venue.
The main concert begins with the Taj Mahal Trio performing some great blues classics. Other highlights include: Marty Stuart and his fabulous superlatives, they have a touch of bluegrass with gospel leanings. The John Popper Project performs excellent jam music with great harmonica work. The New Orleans Social Club performances are outstanding, soulful, and they Rock!!! They do an outstanding job on the old CCR song "Fortunate Son". The performances by Warren Haynes and Government Mule are outstanding, especially their performance of a reggae version of "Soulshine". There are also guest musicians which include Dave Mathews, Branford Marsalis (he is phenomenal on the saxaphone), Taylor Hicks, and Randall Bramblett on saxaphone. Taylor Hicks sings and plays great harmonic music. There are some outstanding collaborations in this concert, which make it more special. The harmonica work, along with the saxaphones, in these collaborations are awesome. There is bonus material, which includes an outstanding collaboration of "Walking to New Orleans", plus "I Shall Be Release". The concert is about 2 hours and 45 minutes. This is an outstanding concert dvd. If you like jam band music, you'll enjoy every minute of this dvd. It's for a worthy cause, and the music is great. I highly recommend it. This is a "Must-Have" for any music lover period!!! Thanks, and may God Bless!!!!
Thank you Warren
