Editorial Review:
Disc One: Decade of Great Goals The goal - that defining moment of a match, a season or even a career. Throughout the first decade of the F.A. Premier League, more than 10,000 goals have been scored by some of the greatest players ever to strike a soccer ball. In this 100 minute program you'll see just some of those goals - finished with breathtaking skill or dogged determination or sheer artistry, and sometimes all three!' The program contains a countdown of the ten best goals from the first ten years of the Premier League nominated by a panel of experts and voted by fans worldwide, culminating with the winning goal being crowned 'The Goal Of The Decade'.
Soccer: A Decade Of Great Goals & Great Matches From The FA Premier League Reviews:
Nice set of both goals and matches
2009-05-26 - I like this DVD set, though I'm the only one in my family who does. My wife and oldest son like soccer a lot, but they aren't too into the bang-bang-bang style of this video. It's PERFECT for me, because I'm not THAT into soccer, so I like that this DVD set is mostly just the highlights. And WOW, some of the goals are pretty spectacular.
That said, it's not ALL highlights with no context. The great goals DVD is actually broken up and presented by season, and there is mention of how the teams fared that year, a bit about the players that you're seeing in action, and interviews with some of the goal scorers that keep it fresh for me, plus there is a "top 10 saves" segment that gives a nod to the keepers, too. The narrator stays energetic throughout and the audio track segues well back and forth between the narrator and the actual announcers from the matches. Overall, the whole thing has an exciting pace and is a visual feast if you like goal scoring.
And then there is Disc 2, "Great Matches," which has highlights of certain key matches from the first decade of the FA Premier League, so that disc fleshes things out a bit more and stays with a single match vice bouncing from team to team through each season to show the best goals. Even my wife sort of likes Disc 2.
So, if you're a bit interested in soccer and don't mind just seeing mostly non-stop goal scoring with a bit of backstory and interviews but no real defense or midfield play, this DVD set is right for you. If you're more a fan of one particular team or you like all that chess game that goes on between goals, well you might be better served elsewhere.
A first rate overview of the first decade
2009-01-07 - This two-disc package is a great buy. It contains a smorgasbord of great goals and game highlights, with informative and interesting insights from many of the coaches and key players involved in the games. I've watched it and rewatched it several times, with undiminished pleasure. (I have only one quibble. To my mind, Bergkamp's superbly acrobatic goal--ranked as the second best of the first decade--is far more impressive than Beckham's long-range--and rather lucky--effort, which is ranked as the best of the decade.)
1st 10 years of premiership
2007-03-12 - This is is the type of video you can watch over and over again, and always find something interesting. Lots of great matches and players, and fun interviews.
EPL -A Decade Of Great Goals And Matches
2004-07-14 - This is a great item to remember the first decade of the English Premier League. It has 2 dvd's put into 1 that show us all the great goals and the top 18 matches of the first decade of electrifying action.I don't have any critisim of the great goals disk but the great matches could have had more action instead of just the goals. If they couldn't make this dvd longer than maybe they could get rid of some of the talking.I agree with the greatest goal by David Beckham and the greatest match of the decade contested between Newcastle and Liverpool.Bechamas chip from half way was awsome and Newcastle vs. Liverpool was the most exciting match i've ever seen because there was alot on the line and it had great action and great goals. There should have been more than 2 Chelsea matches seem I am a Chelsea fan. If you are a true soccer fan buy this DVD now!!GO CHELSEA!!!!! WE ARE GOING TO WIN IT THIS YEAR
