Description of David Cassidy: Live in Concert:
David Cassidy's old and new fans will find plenty of enjoyable nostalgia in this Glasgow, Scotland concert. The former teen idol and star of television's The Partridge Family hasn't forgotten the 1970s touchstones ("I Think I Love You," "I Woke Up In Love This Morning"), and his performance on solo hits ("Could It Be Forever," "I'll Meet You Halfway") still recall Cassidy's vintage pop sensibility: country touches, dreamy crooning, and grown-up arrangements with a glitzy surface for the teeny-bopper crowd. Cassidy has more problems with covers: Deep Purple's "Hush" and Barry Manilow's "I Write the Songs," among others, lack any hint of authenticity. They're part of a post-icon's attempt to look like a seasoned, show-business survivor, a role that makes Cassidy look twitchy and uncomfortable. Not that the man lacks talent: his cabaret take on "Cry" sounds good and offers a glimpse of the sophistication he seeks. --Tom Keogh
David Cassidy: Live in Concert Reviews:
Horrible DVD--don't waste your money!
2009-05-24 - This DVD was truly horrible to watch. I am a big David Cassidy fan--I grew up watching him on the Partridge Family and loved (past tense!) his voice then. I was disappointed on so many levels with this DVD that I had to write a review to offset all those 5 star reviews (what were they thinking??) for this DVD.
His voice: shows no range of high to low notes on this DVD. It's pretty much monotone and husky. He shows no range of emotion when he sings the songs, so they come across as fake and meaningless.
His stage presence: comes across as a really bad wedding singer from the eighties. He has a huge fake smile glued to his face for 90% of the show, even during serious songs. He tries to act sexy in a big, fake, obvious way that is very painful to watch. He continuously plays to the audience of women and acts like he's still a sexy teen idol when he's not! He's a middle-aged man and should show some dignity and maturity and it's just not there, which is so sad.
His hair: looks fake, too. It's been combed off his face and must have so much hair spray in it that it couldn't possibly move anywhere. It's like a rock glued to the top of his head.
This DVD could have been awesome if David had acted his age, showing maturity and dignity, singing the serious songs in a serious manner, and showing the range of emotions and notes his voice used to be capable of.
Is David really this vain? Is his voice gone? Or does he still have it? You certainly can't tell from this awful, self-serving DVD. I hope he still does have the wonderful voice he had in his youth and that he records another album that will show us he still has it.
This DVD I bought will be donated to charity.
Great, and please note the spelling
2006-12-12 - I was at one of these concerts, though not this particular one, in the AUDIENCE, and the atmosphere was as electric as the guitars on stage. The Cassidygirls were out in force, having a great time, the songs were pure Partridge, plus more than a few solo hits to break hearts with and Cassidy himself was having a ball, he is a fabulous performer, full of energy and verve, and it comes out in this dvd. The song selection brings back all those memories of teenage years spent dreaming about him, as he sings just for you, live on stage. If you weren't a fan, don't buy, but if you were, then this will bring it all back. Your family will think you've gone mad as you sit there sighing and clutching a cushion, but hey! You're just a kid again, so what the heck! It's fun, enjoy it while it lasts, and you can keep reliving it, and buy the second concert just to annoy!! Watch Cassidy leap and bound around the stage like a twentysomething again, flirt with the audience and give everyone their moneysworth. This is DEFINITELY one for fans. Keith Patridge he is not anymore, and he can rock with the best of 'em now. He sure knows how to play a guitar - but then, he always did!
david cassidy live
2006-03-03 - old school. to me david cassidy shows that he can still keep his audiance entertained at his age.
not that great 3+?
2005-10-16 - I give this a 3+ stars, I really didn't like it and I am pushing it with a 3+ stars. I basicly was boared with this DVD, I guess I am not a true David Cassidy fan but I do like his music, I just like it better on the Partrige family show instead of live.
Concert at home!
2005-05-25 - I saw David in concert recently and must tell you I bought this DVD afterwards, I was so pleased, it was like reliving the concert in my own livingroom. David truley sings for his fans! This is a must have for all David's fans!
