Editorial Review:
Now on Manifesto for the first time, just in time for its 25th anniversary, is the classic album of American hardcore punk rock, and one of the albums that helped to define the whole genre. First released in 1980, and one of the first hardcore albums ever, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables has been called the "Dead Kennedys signature statement." Containing the classics "California Uber Alles," "Holiday in Cambodia," "Kill the Poor," "Viva Las Vegas," "Chemical Warfare," and "Let’s Lynch the Landlord," this is an album that every hardcore fan must have. According to Kerrang, it is the "#3 Punk Rock Album of All Time," and Mojo has it as "#9 on the Top 50 Punk Albums of All Time." Original line-up of Jello Biafra, East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride, and Ted on drums.
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Eyeballs is the accompanying documentary by filmmaker Eric S. Goodfield. It is a celebration of one of the most influential Punk Rock albums of all-time. This special DVD features a brief history of the Dead Kennedys’ early years up to their first UK tour, never before seen live performances, interviews with band members, comments by music journalists, and insights from the key people involved with the recording of the DK's first album Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables.
The DVD is 55 minutes long, and there is footage of six full-length songs from 1978 and 1979.
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables (CD + New DVD Documentary) Reviews:
A MUST HAVE !
2008-09-09 - All I can say is if you like Punk , Hardcore , this should be in your collection. Get the deluxe with the dvd , it is great. This is by far my favorite Dead Kennedys release and they have some great ones.
Classic stuff
2008-07-09 - Well, what to say - classic H/C production. Must-have for all fans of this style. Chapeau bas!!!
Classic you must have
2008-04-12 - Dead Kennedys are an essential part of history of alternative / punk culture, they were the Sex Pistols of Amerika. The same load of energy and anger, but much more intellectual. Strong lyrics, great music and good quality musicians. This album is the first and captures the most important pieces made by DK including Kill The Poor, California Uber Alles, Holiday in Cambodia and Vivat Las Vegas. The attached DVD contains brief documentary view into the history of the band and interviews with several members, friends and critiques. It really helped me to understand better the context of the album, but also was very entertaining showing some amusing stories like Jello Biafra running for Governor of California. I can highly recommend this album, it is a must for CD / DVD collection of anyone with some roots in alternative culture.
Get This Version and Live In The Present
2008-02-08 - Frankly, I don't care for any of the melodrama. This package was released by three of the original four Dead Kennedys, and so far as I'm concerned, that's plenty. The remastering alone is worth buying a new copy. What this shows is that punk is still alive and well in the 21st century, and whether Jello Biafra likes it or not, so are the Dead Kennedys. This takes the whole experience to a new level. If only more band were still so meaningful and enjoyable after 25 years!
Priceless Punk
2007-11-16 - Another 'must-have' for any connisseur of intelligent punk. "Kill the Poor", "California Uber Alles" and "Holiday in Cambodia" are timeless classics that are just as relevant today as they were way back when.
