Description of The Dog Who Saved Christmas:
The Bannister family’s new addition, Zeus (voiced by Mario Lopez) a former K-9 police hero, appears to be less than the dependable guard dog the family needs. However, when two burglars (led by Dean Cain) set out to break into the Bannister’s home while they’re away for Christmas, Zeus seizes the chance to be a hero, proving every dog – even this one – has his day.

The Dog Who Saved Christmas Reviews:
Made for TV movie
2009-12-23 - I wasn't very impressed with this movie but my kids did stay tuned to it until the end. It's like a dog version of Home Alone. I would say it has the quality/effect of a "Made for tv" type movie which is not something that I usually want to buy or watch twice. The acting isn't that good but the kids didn't really notice. However, they did notice and point out that the dog characters' mouths do not move when they are "talking" and that bothered and annoyed them.
"There's Gotta Be Somebody Out There Who Will Take Me Home"
2009-12-23 - Wow, this one may be good intentioned but it's really bad. It's kind of like watching a skit on Saturday Night Live (SNL), you know what I mean, one of those little parodies where everyone is trying their best not to laugh out loud at the absurdity of the storyline. Only in the case of 'The Dog Who Saved Christmas there's absolutely nothing funny to laugh about.
Definitely not for adults but maybe something children (5 and under) might enjoy. I hope you don't spend any money on this dog (that's a pun).
Nice gift item for the dog lover in your life
2009-12-22 - "The Dog Who Saved Christmas" was originally released as a televised movie on the ABC Family Network. Being a made for TV movie the production quality reflects its original medium but that said the video quality is decent enough that this shouldn't be an issue save for the most discriminating film buff.
The story is a straight rip of 'Home Alone' but obviously geared for a dog loving audience. Mario Lopez does an adequate voice over performance as Zeus, the dog who saves the day. Most of the humor veers toward slapstick and silly gags and is perfectly appropriate for viewers of all age.
Home Alone meets Marley and Me meets Look Who's Talking
2009-12-22 - The premise of the movie is simple. After burglaries on their street, a family decides to adopt a dog. They do, but the dog, a former K-9 canine, no longer barks because of a trauma when he actually worked on the job. The family has to go visit relatives, and burglars decide to target the house. There are obvious parallels to Home Alone, especially in the would-be crooks, who bumble their way through the operation, to any movie with talking animals, and to Marley and Me (Single-Disc Edition) (which, as another reviewer astutely pointed out, has an almost identical cover).
This is clearly an effort aimed at children, and in that sense it might work. However, for adults and, no doubt, teens, it simply isn't worth seeing. There really isn't much heart in the film; there's very little Christmas spirit, and there aren't many true laughs. In anticipation of being told to take a movie for what it is, I will respond that there is no reason for a children's movie not to be enjoyable for people of all ages. Think Toy Story, for example.
