awesome Della Reese album
2007-10-03 - Della Reese has entertained so many people over the years that I couldn't ever count that high! This CD proves that she has real talent as a recording artist.
The track set starts with "Stormy Weather." The horns and percussion create an awesome musical flourish; and when Della comes in this number positively takes off! Della's excellent diction is immediately apparent; and she delivers "Stormy Weather" with panache.
"But Not For Me" gets a jazzy treatment from Della; she swings gently and the arrangement for piano works wonders to bolster this number. Listen also for "In The Still Of The Night." Della performs "In The Still Of The Night" with a fast tempo; and the big band style arrangement compliments Della's vocals perfectly. Della sings "In The Still Of The Night" with all her heart and soul--great! Moreover, "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" shines like silver and gold in Della's competent care--she sings this like the chanteuse she still remains. I predict that you'll enjoy "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" very, very much.
"I Could Have Danced All Night" features Della taking a classic ballad from My Fair Lady and infusing it with a jazzy interpretation to make "I Could Have Danced All Night" all her very own! Love that piano and percussion, too! "All Of Me" gives us Della swinging brightly; she delivers "All Of Me" without a superfluous note--great!
The liner notes include some great artwork; and we also get an essay about Della and her career by S. P. Clarke.
Della Reese still enjoys a long career in show business because you just can't keep good talent down. We are all better off for Della sharing her marvelous talents with us; and with any luck she'll continue to entertain us for decades to come!
