Editorial Review:
Why are Americans so disinterested in politics? Because we can be. Democracy is voluntary. And our lack of interest hasn't happened overnight. It can be traced directly back to our ever-decreasing attention spans. We need anything politically important rationed out like Pez-small, sweet, and coming out of a funny plastic head.
Why has flying in this country, especially boarding the plane, turned into this tedious Bataan death march with American Tourister overnight bags? And when did flight attendants get so cranky?
Who do we find ourselves locked in this pointless pas de doo-doo over something called "arts funding?" The federal tab involved here is a lousy 500 million dollars. One-fifth the national budget! Less than the money spent on 1-900 calls from Air Force One.
Mothers, immigration, marriage, parenthood, sports, political correctness, and our general attitudes toward each other-all are equally worthy of Dennis Miller's close inspection and ridicule. What's really going on in this country? Ask Dennis Miller. Or don't ask. He'll tell you anyway. Not that he really wants to go off on another rant. Remember, it's only his opinion, he could be wrong.
Rants Redux Reviews:
A look back at Our Dennis, pre-9/11 and 2002
2003-08-30 - If you're anywhere left of center, or even a moderate, or maybe even just right of center, this audio CD contains gems--readings of selections of Dennis Miller's rants from the past few years. This, of course, was before 9/11, and before the year 2002 when Dennis' supports (Monday Night Football on ABC and Dennis Miller Live on HBO) were yanked out from under him. This CD is a reminder of the precious commodity we lost when, out of fear or expediency or I-don't-know-why, Dennis decided that the right could do no wrong, and verbally threw the lefties out to the wolves.
I just got this CD yesterday, and I relished replaying some of his rants at least twice. In the first rant, Dennis reminds us that "Arts Funding" is far less than 1% of the federal budget, and though art can't build houses, it does educate, beautify, and display human potential. "90% of arts is s***, 4 out of the remaining 5% is s*** with an asterisk, but oh, that 1%!" He muses on the morality of abortion (taking a middling position), the brass tacks of feminism, and the joys of marriage and parenting.
Of course, this CD is laced with the F word and other choice verbiage. Although I'd always admired Miller, the crude language pushed me away. But I'm thinking now it's better to have (occasional) R-rated language with something wise, compassionate, and pointed to say, than PG-language where you've sold out to the rich and powerful.
Of course that's just my opinion, but I think I'm right.

Lost in Delivery
2001-06-24 - Dennis is one of my favorite comedians, which is why I rated this work so highly. The cover says "Read by the Author" and that's what he does, he reads. Not in the fiery tongue of his TV monologues but like he was reading a bedtime story on a night when he felt under the weather. And some of the material was previously released. At least 3 of the bits are in "Rants". And the jazzy musical interludes between bits is not preferable to dead silence. But he makes you think, and sometimes go look up stuff, which is why I like him.
Best Yet!
2000-04-07 - I don't understand why Dennis Miller only released this on audio, if he put it in print, he would probably make the bestseller list again, maybe it was because he didn't want it to lose anything, all in all, a very good book, my favorite rant was the one on immigration, although on a couple of them, he seemed to be repeating himself, i still think it is a very satisfying buy.
The Best Ranting CD Yet!
2000-03-30 - Dennis Miller is back on audio CD with new material, witty commentary, and those cretive analogies. In this hour long CD, Dennis gives his views about Mothers, Bill Clinton's second term, air travel, parenthood, spouses, child rearing, and the mother of all arguements - abortion where he remains to still have a very humorous approach to just like towards everything else. Dennis Miller is a man who is very familiar with each subject matter he decides to take on, and many of these rants will become fan favorites for years to come. Clearly this is Miller's best audio book, containing some of his best material yet. I highly reccommend to all Dennis Miller fans out there this is worth spending your hard earned money over!
