Description of Switchback:
This film has the feel of a script that's been resurrected by a writer given the chance to direct his own movie. So it was with writer Jeb Stuart (Die Hard) and this film, his directing debut. The plotting is creaky and predictable in this story of an FBI agent (Quaid) relentlessly pursuing a serial killer (Glover) who, in an effort to intimidate the lawman, kidnaps the agent's child. The action set-pieces show up like clockwork, as this rogue cop battles his own agency in an effort to find his child. Quaid is grim and lifeless, so the film's only sparks are given off by Glover, in a wonderfully shaded performance that keeps you guessing whether he is, in fact, the bad guy after all. --Marshall Fine
Switchback Reviews:
Very suspensfull movie
2009-09-24 - Really good, suspensfull movie. Great acting. Danny Glover is such an excellent "bad guy". Dennis Quaid is awesome too.
Good movie, but only 4:3 Letterbox
2009-06-01 - I like the movie, good actors and a great ambience. I don't recommend the DVD. It has Ratio 2,35:1 which is good, but it's made for 4:3 screens and not for modern 16:9 displays. 4 points movie and 1 point DVD = 2 points. The company should write 4:3 or 16:9 outside on the box!
Intense, Entertaining Man's Movie
2009-05-02 - Wow, this is an intense story that should keep you interested for the full two hours. The five main roles are all men and they are pretty interesting, led by Danny Glover's character, who is very, very creepy. Lee Ermey, the fanatical drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket, is fun to watch in here. Jared Leto and Ted Levine also contribute nicely.
I'm hesitant to say much about this film for fear of giving anything away for those who have not seen it. Suffice to say its a rough movie in regards to language, violence and general attitude but the story grabs you quickly and is tough to put down once you are into it.
****possible spoiler**** It's true the story isn't really pieced together until the last few minutes., so be aware of that. The fact that FBI agent Dennis Quaid would figure things out to the exact minute does stretch credibility so don't look for a film that makes a lot of sense: it's simply a very tense thriller that entertains, so it serves its purpose.
Crazyred
2008-10-24 - To all that are interested, I have personel knowledge of this film, I work on the movie in preparing the trains used in this film. All the equipment locomotives, cars, tankers, Cabboose, flat bed cars were leased from local railroads & private Corp. in the making of this movie. I worked for 3 of the companys. Juggling my hours and work in Hudson, CO for Hollywood, on the equipment getting ready for FRA inspection before went on set in Idaho Springs & Georgetown Colorado. I'm a locomotive mechanic with over thirty years of experience, which include welding, pipe fitting, crane operator, sheetmatel and locomotive operator. We got 3 trains ready for FRA inspection in 18 days, long hours great pay. Its is amazing to me how much detail is put into cars, equip., repainting every piece than mucking it up to look used. Depending on railroad weather the equip. was restored to original or left as is with all mechanical problems repaired. I worked with great people in Hudson, mechanics, electricians, machinist, carman, sheetmetal and welders for Southern Pacific. Denver Rock Island, Andersite Rock, Montana Rail Link and the crews of men in women of Hollywood makers of this film.
