This powerful, fast-paced action-thriller will "keep you bolted to your seat" (Pete Hammond, Maxim) as it blows you away in this jaw-dropping format. But can it change the past? Negotiate every mind-bending twist and turn with visually spectacular 1080p, while the walls tremble around you in 5.1 48 kHz, 24-bit uncompressed audio. You’ll have a blast experiencing it again and again in Blu-ray™ High Definition!
Description of Deja Vu [Blu-ray]:
In his most effective thriller since Enemy of the State, Tony Scott makes time travel seem plausible. It helps that his New Orleans hero, ATF agent Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington in his third go-round with the director), spends more time in the present than the past. In order to catch a terrorist, FBI Agent Pryzwarra (Val Kilmer) invites Carlin to join forces. They have the technology to see the past. He has the expertise to interpret the data. Unfortunately, the bomb has already gone off and hundreds of ferry passengers have died. Then there's the body of a beautiful woman, Claire Kuchever (Paula Patton, Idlewild), that turns up in the vicinity of the blast. Evidence indicates she was killed beforehand. Since the FBI enables him to observe Claire prior to her murder, Carlin gets to know what she was like and finds himself falling in love. He becomes convinced that the only way to solve the case--and prove her innocence--is to travel to the past. But as Pryzwarra's colleague, Denny (Adam Goldberg), argues, "You cannot go back in time. It's physically impossible." Or so he says. Déjà Vu is constructed around a clever script and executed by a top-notch cast, notably Washington, Patton, and an eerie Jim Caviezel (miles away from Passion of the Christ). In shedding the excesses of recent years--the sadism of Man on Fire and weirdness of Tarantino favorite Domino--Scott re-affirms his rep as one of the action movie's finest practitioners. --Kathleen C. Deja Vu [Blu-ray] Reviews:
dejavu
2009-11-17 - Love Denzel, he's always good. Precept of film border's on science fiction. If viewer doesn't analyze whole concept, then the film was fine. Serious gaps, assumptions..weak plot. Directing is lacking - but Denzel is Denzel.
This is a VERY GOOD movie!
2009-11-06 - The story:
The story is interesting and compelling. It is hard when it needs to be and soft and touching when it should be. It touches many emotions. The plot grabs your imagination and keeps you interested. You do need to give in to the plot concepts to enjoy it the most.
The direction:
What I like most is the way your viewing time and attention is never wasted. The director skips over unnecessary stuff and keeps the story and action moving along. There is not a lot of filler conversation unlike many other movies.
The acting:
The acting is excellent. Denzel is Denzel yet, somehow different. He has a more 'humane' nature in this movie. He is more humble and polite in ways that don't diminish his strength and inner character. I found him to be very believable.
Summary: I liked this movie immensely. Its now part of my collection and I'll watch it again in the future...or is it the past?
awesome
2009-11-05 - this is an awesome movie denzel' performance was awesome. i recomend this movie for everyone
Can the Past Be Changed?
2009-07-05 - A horrific terrorist explosion takes the lives of over 500 people, including one woman, Claire Kuchever (Paula Patton), who appears to be the key to answering the question: "Who did this and why?" ATF Agent Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington) is called to the scene to help unravel the motive and perpetrator. In the process, Carlin is invited by FBI Agent Pryzwarra (Val Kilmer) to join a cutting-edge satellite technology surveillance team. The high-tech system allows the crime sleuths to "watch" the past as it takes place 4 days and 6 hours previously, in a continuous stream of image and sound data. In the process, Carlin becomes emotionally attached to Claire Kuchever, and is determined to somehow save her life, even though she is already dead. When he learns the present can have an influence on the past, Carlin is told the past cannot be changed, and all events that happened, will happen again. Carlin, now emotionally involved with Kuchever, decides to take the leap to change history at the risk of his life. At this crucial point in the film, one either decides that the plot is feasible or is not. Personally, I don't think the character of Carlin was developed enough to "sell" the viewer that he would risk his life for a woman who is only "alive" on a video stream of data. Either way, I do concede the plot is still mind-blowing and thoroughly engaging in its sheer brilliance. Even though I did not buy-in to Carlin's risk, I had to watch to see how it turned out.
Denzel Washington easily carries this film on his more than ample shoulders, and the direction by Scott is clean and sharp.
This is definitely a movie that will appeal to all sci-fi thriller fans, but is intriguing enough to engage the imagination of fans of other film genres. It is better than a 3-star, perhaps not quite a 4-star, but earns the 4-stars through the imaginative plot.

Deja Vu - Plenty of suspense and surprises
2009-06-08 - If you love movies that keep you guessing you will like Deja Vu. An interesting, suspenseful storyline mixed with a sci-fi twist. Denzel Washington is good as always, but James Caviezel really shines as the villain in this story.
