The Daughter of Dreams, A Fable of Destiny Reviews:
Enchanting
2009-11-16 - After reading "The Daughter of Dreams", so beautifully written by Beverly Barna, I feel moved by the experience. I am truly in awe of the author, writing from the heart about the adoption process without making it seem maudlin. I'm not sure who is most fortunate - the daughter, Suzanna, who is so loved and treasured or Michael & Beverly Barna, the parents, who embarked on this great jouney and were rewarded with a wonderful daughter.
Beautiful Story, Beautiful Images
2009-09-17 - When I first received "The Daughter of Dreams" I was impressed by the beautiful cover, its color and design. The story itself matched, and at times exceeded, the cover in its beauty, creativity and grace (and the illustrations throughout were equally compelling). What a wonderful tale of a child finding her family and home and all the magic that made it possible (wish I had a Jade Rabbit). This is a book for everyone with a family, regardless of how they became family -- and that is everyone.
Exquisitely written
2009-09-02 - This exquisitely written and beautifully illustrated work is sweet and sensitive, yet intelligent in its honoring of the relationships and emotions that flow from the birth of a child. While a tribute to the author's experience with her adoption, the message of the cherished mother - child relationship will be received by all. It was certainly received by me and my 13 year old daughter as we shared the wonderful story. The Daughter of Dreams will make you smile, think and reflect.
Another Mother of Dreams
2009-08-31 - I am the mother of two boys, neither of whom was adopted. I am also in the process of adopting a girl in the U.S. And yes, I actually did see this child in my dreams, and I know already that the author¹s message is so true, even though the story is presented as a fable. A mother¹s love does not differ, regardless of how one¹s family is formed. This book resonated with me because it contains that basic philosophical point, and also because it provides comfort to me at a time when the waiting can be difficult. It is a message of hope and love and a story that any family can cherish. The writing is spectacular and the illustrations are perfectly suited to the text. I can¹t wait to read it to my own daughter of dreams. In the meantime, I know my boys already love it, too. It¹s a great way to celebrate the arrival of their sister.
Instant Classic
2009-08-16 - This is a beautiful, well-written and very moving story. It's one for the ages in words and images, a keeper for the family for years to come, with a distinctive spin on the age-old theme of adoption and a love that is often experienced, but only now widely communicated thanks to this book.
