Survivor Reviews: Great song! 2004-10-09 - Before I give my views on this single, I must first contradict the comments of another reviewer. It's fine that they think this song is "bland and self-righteous," but they could have done some research on DC's background first. As for their definition of being a survivor, hurdles in life don't come much bigger than struggling to become singers in the midst of constant hatefulness and discouragement, having people you think are your friends, and some you don't even know, tell vicious lies about you would surely break anyone's heart, and adversity in the form of lawsuits and unfounded press rumors is pretty serious to me. And how, exactly, would being managed by Mr. Knowles have anything to do with how much these ladies suffered? But anyway ... now that I'm done defending my favorite group, on with the review.
The first thing you should know is that the original version of Survivor isn't included in this single. The first track, however, is almost the same as the version found on their album, except it has a guest rapper, Da Brat, in it. The next two remixes, both done by Calderone, get on my nerves because they are annoyingly repetitive and long, but the CB200 Club Mix is cool because they have redone vocals by Michelle and kelly. The Azza'z Soul Remix has a really funky, hip-hop sort of beat, which makes it the most original remix on this single, even if the vocals aren't redone. So if you're a fan of the ladies of DC3, I recommend that you get this.
Did not like it 2004-04-24 - I did not like this song at all it was just terrible but no Stupalicious but a little bit better utter crap music Lyrics 1/10 Production 7/10 Overall 4/10
Bland and Self Righteous 2002-07-15 - Unexciting Black pop ditty in which our heroines bite back at haters who, they claim, tried to drag them down. Although it's not explicitly mentioned, the song is clearly about their former members who left the group. Whatever. "Survivor" is a single that's self-congratulatory at its worst. To me, being a survivor means going through several hurdles in life, having your heart broken at least once, and facing serious adversity. These ladies, managed by Beyonce's father, hardly know the meaning of the word "adversity." Nonetheless, this jam isn't a bust, but it's a dull and unconvincing single off their third album.
Destiny'sChild 2001-08-04 - I just got the survior C-D the other day it is so good yall have to get it. I love to listen to it at night when I wacth TV when I am supposed to be a sleep. I like it so much that I have to tell you, when you read this you have to get this C-D if you don't already have it.
I LOVE DC-3!!! 2001-06-20 - I just got this single a few days ago and it is slamming! I have been a fan of DC-3 since Say My Name and boy have they changed. This single has five songs on it: 1-Remix Extended Version Featuring Da Brat. It's not acctualy a remix, but they call it that because there is a guest apperance in it. 2-Calderone Club Mix. This is my favorite remix on the single besids the original one. 3-Calderone Drum Dub Mix. This is the reason for the four star rating. Basikly it is just the same as number 2 with the exception of no vocals. It's not very good. 4-CB200 Club Mix. This is a great remix and they do a lot of cool things with thier vocals. 5-Azza'z Soul Remix. This remix is unusual because it is not dance oriented, it's more rap-hip-hopish. Overall this is a great single, and anyone who likes DC-3 must have this single to survive. YOU GO GIRLS!!!
