Editorial Review:
The title is a bit of a misnomer: The Supremes are anthologized in more comprehensive fashion on Motown's three-volume Greatest Hits series, while this package is denser, and has a higher hit-per-track ratio. But if you'd rather pick up one collection than three, and if you want a good, thorough skimming of cream from the group's catalog, this is the better choice. All of the familiar songs are here, with no major omissions--and they're packed in with a liberal helping of second-magnitude hits. For a collection that samples only the extreme top end of the Supremes' output, there's Every Great No. 1 Hit, also on Motown. It's missing a lot, but it delivers exactly what it promises. --Gavin McNett

Diana Ross and the Supremes - The Ultimate Collection Reviews:
BEWARE...IN THE NAME OF LOVE! 2 Star Review
2009-08-31 - This CD looks like a bootleg job. The artwork features the original Supremes but the recordings are not by Diana, Mary and Flo. These are the same recordings made by Scherrie Payne and Lynda Laurence many moons ago which keep creeping in all kinds of compilations from many different countries. Don't get me wrong. I think Scherrie and Lynda are fabulous singers and they have every right to bill themselves as Supremes but it is fraudulent to try to pass these cover tracks for originals. If you are looking for the classic recordings stick with Motown fare.

these ladies do these songs to perfection--and beyond 5 Star Review
2009-05-16 - Diana Ross & The Supremes - The Ultimate Collection gives us a whopping twenty-five tracks on a single CD; we get their biggest hits and more on this album. Diana Ross & The Supremes always sounded good whenever they sang--they put so much feeling into their songs that you could really sense it while you enjoyed every minute of each song. The quality of the sound is really very good considering these came from mono recordings and the artwork is good, too.

The album starts with The Supremes singing "When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes." The beat is infectiously catchy and they sing this faultlessly. "When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes" makes a strong start for this album. "Where Did Our Love Go" is very poignant and these ladies make it sound so perfect! "Baby Love" is another great hit for The Supremes; and that's grand. "Baby Love" has another incredible beat; the percussion and brass are used to great advantage in the musical arrangement. "Stop! In The Name Of Love" stuns me; The Supremes sing this without letting go of a single superfluous note and it is a major highlight of this album. "Back In My Arms Again" has a very fine arrangement; they sing to perfection--and beyond! "Nothing But Heartaches" shines brighter than silver and gold combined; and for a true diamond listen for "I Hear A Symphony." "I Hear A Symphony" charms me with its natural beauty and I think it's one of the best songs they did--ever.

"My World Is Empty Without You" certainly tugs at my heartstrings; and "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" has a fine beat that will get you up and dancing wherever you are right this minute! "You Can't Hurry Love" is very sweet even though the lyrics aren't really the happiest; and "You Keep Me Hangin' On" is very strong. "The Happening" was always one of my very favorite Supremes songs; and just one listen will tell you this was a huge number from them! In addition, I really like "Reflections;" this was recorded after they began to call themselves Diana Ross & The Supremes. "Reflections" is a somewhat psychedelic ballad that works on more than one level at once.

"In And Out Of Love" shines when Diana Ross & The Supremes sing it with all their hearts and souls; and "Love Child" is extremely moving. Although the lyrics to "Love Child" are somewhat heavy, the natural beauty of this song raises it up to be one of their best tunes ever! "I'm Livin' In Shame" is also very well done; these ladies do this one up right! They sing this with a great deal of passion and it shows when you hear it. "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" is so self-confident that it's practically celebratory; and "The Composer" is another fine tune that Diana Ross & The Supremes turn out just like the pros they were and always will be! The album ends strong with these wonderful ladies performing "Someday We'll Be Together." "Someday We'll Be Together" is so hopeful and relentlessly upbeat that this has a rather triumphant flavor; and that music perfectly complements their vocals--great!

Diana Ross & The Supremes never let their fans down; just one listen to this red-hot CD proves it. I highly recommend this as a must-have for fans of this group; and people just hearing their sound for the very first time would do well to start with this wonderful album.

Awesome 5 Star Review
2009-04-27 - Original motown cd..the best. I loved it and is still enjoying it as it
bring back some special memories.

A great collection of Supreme-ness 5 Star Review
2008-12-23 - The Songs are from the beginning of the sixties to the end of the seventies from the biggest female trio the world has ever known. Great to hear Scherrie Payne fronting the group in the collection with "I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking" - a great disco classic that was to be the Supremes' last to 40 hit in the U.S. thanks to Scherries infectious lead vocals. Only thing missing is some detailed liner notes but that's something you rarely get from a budged-priced collection. RECOMMENDED.

TRULY ULTIMATE!! 5 Star Review
2008-04-17 - This album includes all of the Supremes biggest and best hits and then some. Everything from When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes to the final Someday Well Be Together. This is an album where I can listen straight through without any stops. The only thing that I was disappointed in is the sound quality of the songs. With all the digital master machines they have today, I would hope they would be able to have better sound quality than this. The vinyl copy of my Supremes albums sound better than this. But as for the songs, they are fantastic. Baby Love,Where Did Our Love Go?,Come See About Me,The Happening,etc...they all are here. I recommend this album to you. Enjoy!!
