Editorial Review:
In the boxing world, it's called an overmatch. This 1973 artifact found Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross plugged into tracks by a half-dozen producers (including Gaye/Tammi Terrell masterminds Ashford & Simpson, Motown stalwart Hal Davis, and Berry Gordy himself). Although Gaye would later speak disdainfully of Ross to biographer David Ritz, and his richly emotive tone indeed sometimes mixes with her piping coos like oil with water, Diana & Marvin still proves hard to resist. Gaye's restraint is a fine thing to hear, and the two get fittingly touching material in two Stylistics covers and the wonderful single "My Mistake (Was to Love You)." (Never mind how unconvincing they sound on "I'm Falling in Love with You"; lie back and enjoy it.) More than a curio, less than a classic, the original album is augmented by four bonus tracks, three previously unreleased. --Rickey Wright

Diana & Marvin Reviews:
Good Not Great 3 Star Review
2009-05-11 - Ah, Berry Gordy masterminded this meeting of his music titans. The result wasn't as good as Ali-Frazier I, or the Thrilla in Manila. It ended up more like Ali-Frazier II, a non-event. The highlights of this album are the songs you'll find on Marvin or Diana's compilations: You are Everything and Stop, Look, Listen.

The beauty of this album is its novelty. This isn't as good an album as either artist's best works, but it's something historic, considering that Marvin was at his peak and Diana was ascending higher and higher. So we have Motown to thank for putting these two together.

The album's tracks overall are fine but they're not spectacular. I can't overrate it. I do wonder often though how they recorded their parts separately (ie. who would go first? Diana or Marvin?) That is the one thing I think about when listening to this. God bless them both!

two of the greatest 4 Star Review
2009-04-29 - just buy it - the best two of motowns superstars
some really great songs
favourite of all = my mistake.

LOTS OF FUN 4 Star Review
2008-08-15 - This cd is a definite 4 star for me. It's been interesting reading the other comments. Many compare this with the duets Marvin Gaye did with other women. That reaaly doesn't apply here for Diana Ross's voice is very different and very pure.

Many also seem to think he definitely outsings her. I must admit that I am not a huge Marvin Gaye fan but I find that both are showcased well with this collection. YOU'RE A SPECIAL PART OF ME and MY MISTAKE are the big hits and strongest cuts but there is not a song here I dislike. I find it to be a very eclectic collection and put it on repeat in my cd player. For me, Ms. Ross was releasing some high quality solo work during this period and this cd fits very nicely into my collectioon. (Believe it or not I never owned the album so it is a special treat for me.)

The remastering is excellent and if you love either artist it is a must have.

A classic collection!!! 5 Star Review
2007-09-17 - Two Aries, what an excellent pairing!!!! Marvin Gaye with his beautiful voice, and the beautiful Diana Ross and her amazing vocals. It doesn't get any better than this!!!! My favorite tracks on this album are Stop, Look, Listen to your Heart, and My Mistake!!! It is a crying shame that Marvin Gaye was taken away from us so soon. He left behind a legacy of great music!!!

A good piece of nostalgia - Special for Soul fanatics! 3 Star Review
2007-06-05 - This album contains two wonderful scores by Diana Ross and the late (and unforgettable) Marvin Gaye: "My Mistake (Was To Love You)", and "You Are My Everything". Period.
However, if you're a serious Soul music fan, this CD must be in your collection (not yet? Get it right now!), surely you will enjoy the rest of the songs.
