Editorial Review:
While hardly as superfine a Ross vehicle as the Chic-produced Diana of a year later, 1979's The Boss does offer a few tracks of prime Ashford and Simpson-helmed disco-pop. Foremost among them are the title track (also heard on this augmented CD reissue in an even better 12-inch remix), "No One Gets the Prize," and "I Ain't Been Licked." All three offer a mix of sass and vulnerability that's among the diva's most pleasing stances. "All for One" and "I'm in the World" try too hard in their ways to reinvent Ross's showbizzy anthem "Reach Out and Touch," but neither truly offends. --Rickey Wright

The Boss Reviews:
PERFECTION 5 Star Review
2009-10-01 - The collaborations between Miss Ross and Ashford and Simpson are never more artful than on this album. The title song is as vibrant today as ever. I AIN'T BEEN LICKED is one of the most underrated songs of her career. Seeing her perform it live in her '79 tour and then more poignantly in '04 was proof of the power of the song. NO ONE GETS THE PRIZE, ALL FOR ONE...no end to the quality, no end to the legend.

She is truly, THE BOSS.

Awful! 1 Star Review
2009-03-18 - I like funk music Ohio PLayers, Ike and Tina, Rufus, Chaka Solo. But this crap sucks. I really liked the boss but the rest just sounds really crappy and extremely outdated. As for someone who's really young. It's almost too outdated for me. I think her other work his alot better. Some the tracks put me to sleep!

Ross at her Disco Best !!! 5 Star Review
2008-08-27 - What an amazing cd. Disco had its time and there was some quality music and some that was very subpar. Diana Ross shined with disco and did some of her best work. I was going to the clubs when this album was released and anyone from that time period knows how awesome it was when THE BOSS started playing. That song made the crowds go wild. It was a disco anthem and a true classic.

But this whole cd shines. NO ONE GETS THE PRIZE and I AIN'T BEEN LICKED are also both amazing. ALL FOR ONE and I'M IN THE WORLD are also awesome. Seriously, you can't go wrong with this cd. You have dance tracks at their highest caliber and most glorious plus some excellent ballads. A perfect set. And you get the added addition of two bonus tracks - dance remixes of THE BOSS and IT'S MY HOUSE - both amazing.

Diana Ross has had so many fazes during her career and there are highlights from each. THE BOSS is certainly one of those highlights and a must have for any Diana fan or fan of truly quality music !

Fierce and Flawless! 5 Star Review
2008-08-15 - I was around 11 years old when this album came out and IT turned me OUT. The arrangement of the horns, percussions, strings and lyrics were hypnotic. Lady Ross gave the one and only vocal performance for this production. Listen to her dig into her high register on single "The Boss". Never before had Ross hit high notes like she did on that drive. Not only did Ross give a powerful vocal performance, but that Nick Ashford was not to be played with. He peed on the background vocals of "No One Gets The Prize" which is my second favorite on this classic album. "Once In The Morning and It's My House" are my other two, but "The Boss and No One" remains outstanding. In 1979, Disco was hot and so was Ross. Motown should have pushed this album to its limit by releasing the 12" mixes of "No One" which you can get a bootleg copy of now and "Once In The Morning". Unfortunately, they slept on this one. Even though this album never made it to the top 10 (pop), it was number one for us who wanted to hustle, dance and shake what our momma gave us. Everything from the album cover to the vinyl is simply delicious and impeccable! Work DIANA!

Her best album. 5 Star Review
2008-07-15 - This is probably La Ross' BEST album. Many people will say the Chic produced record is her best, but I think this one is far better. From the first track "No One Get the Prize" you're hooked. I remember working at a record store when this one came out, my best friend and I would crank this mutha when would first open the store.

Get it DianA!
