Description of Long Trip Alone (CD+DVD):
In the wake of 2005's Modern Day Drifter, Dierks Bentley has maintained fierce career momentum, earning awards, packing concerts, and joining the Grand Ole Opry in the space of just over a year. As before, he continues to flawlessly integrate straight-ahead, unforced vocals into a riproaring sound, underpinned this time by the solid, appealing mainstream acoustic bluegrass of touring partners the Grascals. The opening track, "Every Mile a Memory," defines the album's direction, buttressed by the witty "That Don't Make It Easy Loving Me." He projects clarity and desperation on "Trying to Stop Your Leaving," enhanced by an understated, yet appropriately tense arrangement. "Band of Brothers" celebrates the quintessential travails of musicians playing the low end of the honky-tonk circuit, while his all-inclusive, courageous views on "The Heaven I'm Headed To" may not please hardcore red-staters. The perpetual debate pitting country modernists against traditionalists often reaches the same levels of intensity as in current politics. Long Trip Alone demonstrates the smartest solution: quality modern country of the moment that simultaneously honors its past. --Rich Kienzle

Long Trip Alone (CD+DVD) Reviews:
Dierks Bentley as always- great! 5 Star Review
2009-05-21 - I've loved this album since I first heard tracks from it with a personal memory of his performance of Long trip Alone at the 4th of July at the Capitol. I like the artist and his songs and the music.

He just keeps getting better and better! 5 Star Review
2006-12-24 - Personally, every time i buy a new Dierks album, i find it better than the previous one! ok, there aren't that many albums out yet, but still! This album's got some killer tracks! it sound very country it really makes you wanna dance!

An impressive, solid effort from Dierks!!!! 4 Star Review
2006-10-19 - Man, I was impressed with this album all the way through. I am sure it has its flaws, but they are few and far between. I like how this kid is doing too, respectful to the past and progressive enough for the alternative crowd. "Every Mile A Memory" is a great single and "Long Trip Alone" is a very good song. Buy this album, Dierks got his stuff together and he should only get better as time goes by. Thanks Dierks!

More of the same...this is bad, sorry Dierks... 2 Star Review
2006-10-17 - Dierks is OK, decent even, but he's not progressing enough...it's more of the same. This is fine with many artists, but Dierks is not ALTERNATIVE enough, if at all. He's tried to play both sides of the fence on his last 2 records...mainstream and alt-country, and it's getting old. Be one or the other, and it seems he's leaning more on the mainstream side on this new album, which I don't like. I HATE mainstream country, there's no edge, no real ROCK & ROLL in it, and it's tailormade for radio, and I can't stand mainstream country radio. On this record, it seems the label is trying to mold Dierks into being all mainstream. No way man, he blew it this time. He doesn't have enough of an inner hunger or independent streak. If anything, one new country record out this week that blows this one away is Vince Gill's new 4CD extravaganza of 43 NEW SONGS!!! Each disc focuses on a distinct style: catchy rock, southern soul/blues, traditional country, and acoustic/bluegrass. Vince wrote or co-wrote all the songs, plays lead guitar on all of them, co-produced it all, and he doesn't give a damn about having a hit single, ie it's not COMMERCIAL, and he's true to his art and his strengths, which is more important and makes Vince kind of alternative...Dierks should follow this path and defy what his label wants...independent alternative artistry is more important than hit singles, which are actually detrimental to any career, as they put artists into a box. Dierks CAN break the mold and escape this mentality, while there's still time...we'll see...nice packaging on the limited edition though...

Dierks You Did It Again DUDE! 5 Star Review
2006-10-17 - The new Dierks Bentley CD is one of the best new cds I have bought in a long time!! I have bought a lot of new cds lately. Songs about love, relationships, Heaven, living life to its fullest. Upbeat songs, good ballads as well as good vocals and just plain good Country Music! Easy to enjoy...no hard to get into tracks. I honestly think its his best cd yet and I LOVED his last two.I bought the limited edition with the DVD. I wish the DVD included all of his music videos but it does include his two latest music videos...and some other neat things. He has a complete music DVD due out in 2007 so I guess well get more DVD music then.If you love Dierks buy this cd either the limited edition with the bonus DVD or the regular CD version. If you dont like it I want to know why.
