Up from the Ashes Reviews:
OK, but not enough Norum 3 Star Review
2009-01-02 - Good if you are a Don Dokken fan, but if you are a John Norum fan, i suggest you find his solo CD "Face the Truth" on the Shrapnel label Lots of melodic shred!

1st class metal rock 5 Star Review
2008-08-20 - Top cd,with excellent vocal & band sound. If you like metal rock then this is a must for your collection.

The last great Dokken album 4 Star Review
2008-08-09 - I was heartbroken when Dokken broke up after their amazing 1988 album Back for the Attack. I just knew that nothing Don Dokken or George Lynch could do on their own would ever live up to what they accomplished during Dokken's mid 80's heyday. I think time has proven me right on that one, but I have to admit that Don's 1990 solo album Up From the Ashes came pretty close.

Alongside former Europe guitarist John Norum, Peter Baltes, Billy White, and Mikkey Dee, Don got right to doing what Dokken was all about - making killer melodic hard rock. This album is the perfect follow-up to Back for the Attack in that it's hard hitting, insanely melodic, and has the kind of "stick in your head instantly" songs that Dokken was so well known for. Sure, you can't help but miss George Lynch's flashy solos, but John Norum is no slouch either. Actually, I think Jeff Pilson is the real missing link here.

There are some first rate melodic rockers on this album, including Crash n' Burn, Living a Lie, Mirror Mirror (which actually made it onto a Dokken Best Of not too long ago), and the Hunger. Even the ballads are a cut above the norm.

It's not Dokken, but it is the next best thing. Up From the Ashes should satisfy just about any Dokken fan. Of course, Don has since reformed Dokken with various lineups, but this album was the only one of his post-Back for the Attack releases that really compared to the classic Dokken material.

Solid Effort 4 Star Review
2008-05-09 - I really like this album. It is not as heavy as some Dokken efforts, however, it has a great sound at high volumes. If you like Don Dokken's vocals, as I do, you will enjoy this one for sure. I was very impressed when I bought the tape when it first came out. It sounds even better on CD. Crank it up and enjoy !!

Dokken at his best! 5 Star Review
2008-05-05 - I was blown away by this CD. My first reason to buy it was Peter Baltes ( ACCEPT ) inclusion in the line up. Then I realiza King Diamond's drummer was also included in this project +Don Dokken lead vocals, what else can you ask?
The whole album is awesome. No fillers, no extra songs to fill in gaps, they all are carefully crafted masterpieces. It's hard to pick up a favorite song. Yes! It's this good!
I even feel this CD is superior to all past previous DOKKEN releases. It's like Don Dokken was waiting for the right moment to release his private collection under his own name.
I highly recommend this CD. It's the best metal album I have digged up in years from that glourious metal era.
