Japan Live '95 Reviews: Beware..... 2008-06-21 - I never had the chance to see George Lynch with Dokken so I figured this would be a great way to do so. Video quality is fine but the audio is really, really lousy. I own many bootleg concerts on video and this is weak even compared to those. If you are a real Dokken "fiend" then you will probably like this and can overlook the subpar sound. Anything short of that, you will most likely be disappointed. I was.....oh well.
Bore me ... bore you 2008-04-30 - After watching this I'm glad I didn't spend the money to buy this DVD. Don looks totally bored and sleep walks through his performance. He can barely hit any of the high notes. George starts off missing a bunch of notes on the first few songs. I guess he didn't warm up or maybe he's taken too many steroids to play properly. He doesn't even look at anybody during his whole performance. And what is up with the shiny pants? There's hardly any interaction between band members. Jeff and Mick are the only two that entertain the mostly bored audience. If I were at that concert, I'd asked for me money back. The video and audio quality are ok but it's nothing to write home about. Save your money unless you really have to have it. I'd give it less than a star if I could.
Not Bad 2007-10-28 - The concert itself is not bad, and that's what gets three stars. If I had seen the show that night in 1995, I would have left happy. By today's standards, the show is dated terribly, but the song selection is great, and the band was really playing well. The production values of this dvd are awful, however. It appears to have been shot on video, and parts of the concert footage even appear to be warped. Also, a big boo to whoever put this together for editing out (poorly) all of the "in between songs" banter. As soon as one track ends, the screen goes black, then another track starts. I'd rather have had the whole concert experience. But for it's original lineup and for the EXCELLENT acoustic version of Dream Warriors on the bonus features, this one gets three stars. You could do worse, just be aware of the faults with this disc.
Dokken ... Rhymes With Rockin' 2007-09-07 - Here's another favorite of mine from the '80s L.A. metal scene. These guys rock with a great melody, and George Lynch is one of my favorite guitarists ever. This video features the original Dokken lineup. Go for it!
ORIGINAL LINEUP! 2007-05-14 - If you are like me, growing up, digging Dokken, then this is the DVD for you. This is the best DVD with the ORIGINAL LINEUP you are going to collect. The group is riding the wave of their "Dysfunctional" success and I think this is the best time the group is captured on DVD. They always had a thing for Japan. This is their milieu. A lot of wanna-be critics are bashing this DVD, but this is all we are ever going to have. Don hits the high notes many times. In any concert the singer doesn't hit every high note on the studio version of songs, so get over it. "George doesn't look up once during the concert." What a stupid thing to write! His style has always been the same. Listen to his solos in the DVD. They are great! For "Alone Again" Don starts out accoustic, appealing to the Japanese ladies, then they rage into an electric ending of the song and George comes out shirtless looking ripped. (Yeah, he's not into it) He had been working out because he said, "I have teenage sons." The sound is good too. Forget all the people who love to see their misguided thoughts in print and get this DVD. If you came of age in the 80's and Dokken made you stop and listen to good Heavy Metal then this is the only Dokken DVD for you. Philo and I are the ones you should be listening to.
