2009 release, the Original Cast Recording of 9 To 5: The Musical, written by Miss Dolly Parton herself. 9 To 5 was produced by Stephen Oremus and Dolly. Alex Lacamoire (music director and co-orchestrator for the Grammy winning original cast recording of In The Heights) co-produced and the album was recorded and mixed by Frank Filipetti. Features 18 tracks.

A Huge Disappointment! 
2009-10-15 - I played this male-bashing mess through once, and tossed it in the "never play" again stack of CDs. I love Dolly. I love her writing. This show had a few cute lines, but the basic one is "All women are wonderful and virtuous. All men are oversexed, intolerant, pigs." I really expected more. There is a slight irony in that the CD arrived the day they announced the show's closing. I was not surprised.
Gone from Broadway but the music stills lives on 
2009-09-22 - I was so excited about this musical and was really saddened when the show closed in early September 2009 after only a few months of being open on Broadway. But thankfully, we have the Cast Recording of "9 to 5 the musical" to remember the show by. The three leading ladies consist of Megan Hilty (Doralee), Stephanie J. Block (Judy), and Allison Janney (Violet). Many know Megan Hilty and Stephanie J. Block through their work on "Wicked" and know that they can sing but Allison Janney is a surprising choice. But actually she's not that bad of a singer. While she can't belt it out like Stephanie and Megan, she carries her own in the singing department. Marc Kudisch is the evil Mr. Hart and Kathy Fitzgerald plays his assistant Roz. The musical has some stand out songs and a few boring ones in my opinion. But thankfully the boring ones are few and far between.

I would recommend this CD to anyone who was lucky enough to see the show on Broadway and to fans of the the cult classic film. Broadway fans might also enjoy this because it may have been written by Dolly Parton but it's still got some classic Broadway sound to it.

2009-09-20 - I was so looking forward to receiving this album having enjoyed the stage show so much: very clever writing and (refreshingly) music you could actually hum as you left the theatre.
Then the CD arrived in the cardboard packaging. Couldn't get the CD out... it was glued inside the case. When I did get it out, there was a big glop of white glue stuck to the disc. Tried to removed it, in vain. Several other little sprays of glue on the disc. It was new, so this was certainly no fault of the seller, but I would suggest that anyone buying this disc ask the seller to open it and inspect the disc before sending.
On this particular disc, there is also a concentric circular "ridge" in the pressing half way through the disc. Do not know if this will affect playing or not, but I've never seen it on any other disc.
It was mentioned in the lead review of this disc that it was manufactured by Dolly's own recording company. Maybe that isn't such a good idea. She does so many other things so well! I hope others have not had this experience. I really want to hear the music.
Hope you get a disc you will enjoy. Obviously, some have.

2009-09-11 - It was an excellent CD. I saw the show and really enjoyed hearing the music before I went.
A great Cast Album!
2009-09-09 - It is always good to get the original cast album of a great show...especially after seeing it on Broadway a few days before. The cast is brilliant...the music original and fun...and performed flawlessly. I recommend it highly especially if the newly announced tour is on its way to your city. You'll love listening to it!
