Heartbreaker Reviews:
"Heartbreaker" is No Heartbreaker At All!
2008-03-02 - I have been listening to Dolly for the better part of the last 11 years (when I was about 8 years old), so I am a lifelong listener.
This woman has put out some amazing music in her long career, and "Heartbreaker" ranks amongst the best in her catalogue. From the richness of "I Really Got The Feeling" and the funky "Sure Things" to her disco signature "Baby I'm Burning" and the wonderful "Nickels And Dimes," how could anyone NOT love it?
My only beef: the running time of 32 minutes. The only thing that would have made this better was if it were longer. "Dancin' Dolly" struck gold, no matter what anyone else says. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to mix country roots with pop music-this album got fantastic results!
More crossover success
2004-03-22 - HEARTBREAKER is a good Dolly album, start to finish. True, it led to more crossover success, but it also gave fans some truly memorable songs that have become Dolly classics. The album had two #1 country singles, the title track and "I Really Got The Feeling". The title track also reached #37 on pop charts, and #12 on AC. The other single was "Baby I'm Burning", a pop/disco number which reached #48 on coutnry, #25 on pop and #11 on AC.
The title track is a beautiful ballad, although sad. "I Really Got The Feeling" and "We're Through Forever ('Til Tomorrow)" are really nice pop ballads that definately bring a smile to my face. There's some fun uptempo's, like "Baby I'm Burning" and "I Wanna Fall In Love" (which was the b-side to "Baby I'm Burning").
Another notable ballad is the reflective song "It's Too Late To Love Me Now". There's plenty of fun uptempo songs here like "Sure Thing", "With You Gone", and "Nickels and Dimes". Overall, it's a solid Parton album from the 70s, and has some truly memorable songs throughout.
Her Second Best Album
2003-09-11 - My lord! If you like Dolly you must have this in your collection!! Her best album was Dolly Dolly Dolly - "Here You Come Again" but this is a close second!!!
70s Dolly
2002-05-27 - When Buddha records announced they were going to remaster some of Dolly's old albums back in 1999, I was hoping they would do some of her albums that are not available on CD or very hard to find. Luckily, HEARTBREAKER was one of the ones they chose to remaster and release on CD. HEARTBREAKER is when Dolly was still crossover, into pop and disco, but still maintaining its country roots. The 10 songs are what you'd expect from Dolly, touching songs about life and relationships, the simpler things in life.
The album opens with the midtempo ballad "I Really Got The Feeling". It's a touching song backed with a orchestra rich in symphony. "It's Too Late To Love Me Now" is a sorrowful ballad in which Dolly injects enough emotion to support the song. "We're Through Forever ('Til Tomorrow)" is another inspiring love ballad. "Sure Thing" has attitude, and its a great quirky fun song. "With You Gone" has a catchy chorus, its irresistibly fun to sing along with. The disco anthem "Baby I'm Burnin" is also here, it's classic Dolly. "Nickles and Dimes" and "The Man" are both interesting songs with nice instruments, and vocals from Dolly. "Heartbreaker" is very sad, a sad delivery from Dolly, definately a classic. "I Wanna Fall In Love" is a fun upbeat disco song, it was the bside to "Baby I'm Burnin".
Overall HEARTBREAKER isn't what the title implies, its for the most part a fun upbeat album, with some sad songs, but overall its classic Dolly.
FUNKY DOLLY!
2002-04-06 - I'm a thirteen year old Dolly fan, and this CD has got to be the best Dolly ever! You could take "I Wanna Fall In Love" and put it into today's pop charts and it wouldn't sound old. "Sure Thing" is my fave song because it's so happy and it makes you want to dance.
I like Dolly's pop AND her country albums. You can just pick a Dolly CD to suit your mood. This is the CD I'd listen to if I was feeling energetic, happy or even sad, because the songs are so good that they just cheer me up. Another song I really love is "With You Gone". I love it's upbeat music and piano instrumentals.
People who don't like Dolly's pop and disco music, I advise you to steer clear. There are lots of country Dolly albums (I should know, I've got about 21, all country) so give this a miss. We pop Dolly lovers are going to enjoy this no end!
