    Description of Dead Bang:
The race murders committed by a group of neo-Nazis in Dead-Bang are based on fact, but the down-on-his-luck, L.A. homicide detective (Don Johnson in a role inspired by a real-life cop) investigating them is the real show here. His personal life in such turmoil that he vomits on a witness, his finances so bad that he has to tape his broken glasses, Johnson's gumshoe is a study in dedicated grimness. There's adequate suspense and drama surrounding the killer fascists, but this 1989 film by John Frankenheimer (The Manchurian Candidate) is more noteworthy for a few examples of the director's stylish flair for hard action than social commentary. --Tom Keogh

    Dead Bang Reviews:
Don In His Prime 3 Star Review
2009-12-14 - Don Johnson was in his prime when this film was made.

The plot is terrible, and the action scenes just okay, and the casting somewhat off, but Johnson gives a good performance.

It is worth watching if you are a Don Johnson fan, and I am.

Buy used and you won't be too disappointed.

Don Johnson doing another cop movie 2 Star Review
2009-05-26 - I like Don Johnson most of the time. This is not one of those times.. Just not a very good movie. Just not very engaging. A fair amount of action but after I watched it, I had to look at the back to remember it. Enough said.

The Search for Bobby Burns 2 Star Review
2007-02-07 - The film opens with a man looking at a pile of past due debts. Jerry Beck is a divorced policeman who has a restraining order. Then we see an armed robber shoot a store owner, then a policeman, when he escapes. Beck is sent to search for suspects in these killings. One name is on the top of the list, so Beck tracks him down, but Bobby Burns gets away.

Another scene show more bad guys robbing a cantiƱa and shooting the customers. The sheriff calls Jerry Beck to report this because of the wanted notice. When they go to investigate the robbers attack them with machine guns! [Too exaggerated?] These robbers are part of a white supremacy group. Beck traced them to Oklahoma (a long way from California and Arizona). More action occurs, but not much happens.

Beck's actions cause him to be treated by a psychiatrist to determine his fitness for duty. [This is the comic part.] Reinstated, Beck goes to Boulder Colorado to investigate the "Selby Ranch". This a military operation doesn't find Bobby Burns there. But the search continues, they find a secret tunnel. There is a shoot-out, a surprising finish, and the good guys win in the end.

The basic idea for this film is good, but this plot could have been better. It wasn't serious enough.

a good time waster but not "dead bang" on 3 Star Review
2006-01-03 - i have to admit i like this movie. sure you could drive a truck through the plot holes, but for some reason this one clicked for me. don johnson gives a very good preformance as a cop to beat down to let this case of a cop killer go, and as is always the case it leads to a much bigger problem than he though. like i saidnot a great film, but i did enjoy it,so if you like don johnson sit back and enjoy

Pretty Good, Not Bad at ALL ! 4 Star Review
2005-12-25 - Don Johnson plays Jerry Beck a tough cop who doesn't play it by the book everytime. He's got an arduous task of tracking down & bringing to justice a group of white supremists who are responsible for knocking down among other things a black store owner, a hispanic restaurant owner and also kill a cop in the process. His obsessive chase takes him far & wide across the country until he hits the mountain plains of Denver ( Canadian location used cleverly instead of the mile high city ) . The climax especially with an unhelpful FBI agent leads him to an isolated church where the final action takes place. Without doubt the last 25 mins or so, is excellent action and veteran director John Frankenheimer shows an eye for DETAIL ! Don Johnson does full justice to his role with some clever humor thrown in as well. The editing and cinematography is sharp and one definite plus point is the music of Gary Chang.
