Editorial Review:
Steven Spielberg's 1982 hit about a stranded alien and his loving relationship with a fatherless boy (Henry Thomas) struck a chord with audiences everywhere, and it furthered Spielberg's reputation as a director of equally strong commercial sensibilities and classical leanings. Henry Thomas gives a strong, emotional performance as E.T.'s young friend, Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore make a solid impression as his siblings, and Dee Wallace is lively as the kids' mother. The special effects almost look a bit quaint now with all the computer advancements that have occurred since, but they also have more heart behind them than a lot of what we see today. --Tom Keogh
E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial [Region 2] Reviews:
Some of the Best Movies for Children are not the Newest Ones
2009-11-18 - I have 3 little children I needed to purchase Christmas gifts for. Their mother can't & I finally settled on 2 pairs of PJ's for each & a DVD. I strained my brain, trying to remember back to the movies my 2 children enjoyed; also us as a family. For the 6 yr old boy I settled on "ET". It was the best movie & I knew this little fella would enjoy it, as well as his siblings & his Mom. Amazon is the place I come to find those movies I know I can't get anywhere else & they cost less. I'm happy Amazon had this one!
A Masterpiece
2009-11-15 - This is Steven Speibergs best movie ever. this movie is truly a classic among classics. i really can't say anything more than that this movie is awesome. i enjoyed it a lot and i hope you will to. I Recommend it for everyone
ET
2009-11-12 - The movie is a classic that I have been wanting to share with my daughter for a long time.
I love this movie
2009-10-25 - E.T. is awesome. I love the way they restored it and added an extra scene.
Forget the new version!
2009-09-28 - I have to say that I don't particular love this film, but I will admit that it is an aboslute classic family film. Everyone in the family will always enjoy it. Now with that being said, I, like most people, have issues with this new edition of E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial. First off, the new CGI look for the alien himself is just plain silly. He looks way more unrealistic that he does in the original version. He looks too much like Jar-Jar Binks and Dobby (from Harry Potter). And then, there are the "edits" that have been made. You probably know what's wrong here: the replacing weapons with talkie-talkies, replacing the word "terrorist" with "hippie," editing out the word "[...]," etc. Why couldn't they just leave this film alone and leave it the way it is. The great original is the one that should be watched, not the new 2002 version where it is dominated by political correctness. The 2-Disc Limited Collector's Edition is no longer in stock, so you'll have to find used DVD's. Why? Because it's the only edition that has the original 1982 version. So find one here, or on Ebay, or wherever you can find it, and skip the new 2002 version.
