  • Editorial Review:
According to Red Sox super-fan Ben Wrightman (Jimmy Fallon), finding romance is about as likely as his beloved team winning the World Series. But when Ben scores a beautiful new girlfriend (Drew Barrymore), suddenly anything is possible. Now the two passions in his life have a chance to go all the way... if he doesn't strike out first.

    Description of Fever Pitch:
The Farrelly brothers continue their good-natured winning streak with Fever Pitch, a romantic comedy charmed by fate and last-minute improvisation. The movie was originally written with a bittersweet ending, but something unexpected happened (kismet, or perhaps divine intervention?) when the Boston Red Sox scored miraculous victories in the 2004 playoffs and World Series, and Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon were there, in character, to celebrate love and baseball as a pair of amiable lovers who learn to share their lives while accommodating Fallon's life-long passion for the Red Sox. You really have to love baseball to forgive the formulaic romance by veteran Hollywood screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel (who also wrote A League of Their Own, and could write this stuff in their sleep), but the codirecting Farrellys make it work, along with the easygoing chemistry of Barrymore and Fallon. The movie bears little resemblance to Nick Hornby's source novel (which was more faithfully adapted as a 1997 British comedy starring Colin Firth), but anyone who enjoyed High Fidelity or About a Boy will recognize Hornby's keen understanding of men and women, and the hazards we all endure when playing the game of love. --Jeff Shannon

    Fever Pitch Reviews:
    Fever Pitch 5 Star Review
2009-10-15 - Movie was like new. Packaging not damaged. The review said like new and it was.

    Acute movie 5 Star Review
2009-09-25 - I think it's fair to say every Red Sox fan has seen this movie. And i think it's fair to say in New England every knows where they were the night the Sox finally won it. I certainly do!!!
Not to go into detail, you can read hundreds of the other reviews for details and plots. This is a nice, sweet, funny, love story, made by two New Englanders, who love the Sox for better or worse. This is a perfect movie to watch with your sweetheart if you don't want to watch a movie like The Notebook or those other thousands of rom/coms. Cause it has baseball, guys like baseball, haha. The movie appeals to both sexes.

Not nearly as good as the book 3 Star Review
2009-09-22 - Fun enough to watch, but am I the only one who feels it's sanitized? Everything is all so nice and works out in the end, Red Sox included. Although I haven't seen the 1997 Colin Firth film, I did read the book that both were based on and gave it 5 stars:
    Fever Pitch

Have you heard "If you liked the movie, you'll love the book"? I'm not sure that's true here. Interestingly, this movie was released as "The Perfect Catch" overseas. Probably because it is unrecognizable from Nick Hornby's book.

The Farrelly Brothers are not Orson Welles, and while this isn't full of potty humor like some of their other movies, nor is it an art house film. You don't need to pay close attention, everything is spelled out for you (sometimes multiple times!). Drew Barrymore knows romantic comedies but I think Jimmy Fallon is more surprising, and impressive. Ultimately it's a chick flick, and I suppose there's not too many of those about sports.

    FEVER PITCH 5 Star Review
2009-09-10 - SUCH A FUN MOVIE! DREW BARRYMORE MAKES ANY GUY SHE STARS WITH A GOOD ACTOR. AND JIMMY FALLON IS FUNNY AND LAST OF ALL WHO DOESN'T LOVE THE BOSTON RED SOX (EXCEPT THE YANKEES?) REALLY ENJOYABLE MOVIE!

Great Baseball Movie 5 Star Review
2009-07-15 - I was really impressed with this movie. It was great acting and Jimmy Fallon who is usually to much for me was really great at acting and just being the character that he was playing. Drew Barrymore acted the way she always does there was nothing to different about the acting but it was great. I would watch this movie over and over again. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves a wonderful made romantic comedy.
