Editorial Review:
The Dudley Moore Trio--Jazz, Blues & Moore Wonderful classic studio recordings of standards and originals from the 1960s and 1970s... Following on the critically acclaimed "Jazz Jubilee," this new CD includes classic jazz, swing and blues--studio recordings featuring Dudley with drummer Chris Karan and bassists Pete McGurk and Peter Morgan, who because the Trio's bassist after McGurk's death. These are standards and originals including classic jazz, swing and blues--sometimes virtuosic, sometimes introspective, sometimes romantic.
Jazz, Blues & Moore Reviews:
Moore talented than most
2007-04-10 - These recordings are well worth getting. As well as being a great comedian and comic actor Dudley Moore was a gifted Pianist.
He is won of a select band of Pianists who played and recorded professionally as both a Jazz pianist and a Classical Pianist. These Jazz recordings date from 1966 and capture him with his regular trio, Pete McGurk on Bass and Chris Karan on Drums. The first track tells you all you need to know about this album. An Oscar Peterson like intro leads into a swinging rendition of My Blue Heaven, with a noteably long quote from Ellingtons Squeeze Me thrown in as well.
Peterson and Garner were Dudley's main influences, but its Petersons influence you will hear on a few of these tracks. However on tracks like Blues for Boots, and Sooz Blues Dudley stamps his own mark on proceedings with a couple of lowdown blues.
Strongly recommended recordings from an immensley talented man who's humour and musical ability are sadly no longer with us.
Eminently informative and listenable
2006-08-23 - A greatly informative experience for those as yet unexposed to Dudley Moore's essential piano style. The Trio as a performing entity is truly represented on this recording. I use this as an example to my music students at university to demonstrate jazz feel and the ability to swing as a unit. Just listen , and enjoy , and learn to really hear what is presented
Jazz, Blues & Moore.........Dudley Moore
2006-08-15 - Before this CD, the only other Dudley Moore CD that I owned is Songs Without Words. I love this one almost as much. If you like piano jazz and piano bar type music then you will love this CD.
Jazz, Blues and Moore
2006-08-04 - Here, Dudley shows his mastery of every Jazz cliche in the book, including his great imitation of Errol Garner. Some riffs a little ingratiating, but evidence of Dudley's formidable classical talent creeps in to help. A 3.5.
An album of pure genius
2006-02-28 - This is one of Dud's outstanding ablums. If you've always liked Dud's piano playing then this is the one for you. It is sublime. A rare mixture of his favorite composers played with all the feeling and imagination only Dud could give to these renditions that are clearly inspired by Oscar Peterson,
