From famed writer/producer Shaun Cassidy comes a suspenseful tale of a blended family trying to recover from a devastating hurricane and its mysterious aftermath For park ranger Russell Varon (Eddie Cibrian), a divorced father of two who is expecting a third child with his new wife, the hurricane proves to be merely the beginning of a long journey into the unknown. As the tiny town of Homestead, Florida struggles to rebuild itself, Sheriff Tom Underlay (William Fichtner) - who is married to Russell's ex-wife - suspiciously orders the entire area quarantined. Description of Invasion - The Complete Series:
Following the success of Lost, Invasion was one of numerous sci-fi-themed shows that debuted in the fall of 2005. But unlike Threshold and Surface, Invasion had the distinct advantage of airing in ABC's slot right after Lost, at 10 p.m. on Wednesdays. Created and produced by Shaun Cassidy (yes, the former teen idol who also produced American Gothic), the series starts in a flurry with a devastating hurricane threatening a Florida city and a 21st-century family happens to be in the middle of it. There's park ranger Russell Groves (Eddie Cibrian) and his wife, Larkin (Lisa Sheridan), who's an inquisitive television reporter. Living with them is Larkin's no-account brother, Dave (Tyler Labine), who blogs about conspiracy theories and aliens while between jobs. Also living with them some of the time are Russell's kids, Rose (Ariel Gade) and Jesse (Evan Peters), who also spend time with their mother, doctor Mariel Underlay (Kari Matchett), who has also remarried, to the town's sinister sheriff, Tom (William Fichtner). Tom also has a child from a previous marriage, sexy teen Kira (Alexis Dziena). Amid the chaos of the hurricane, little Rose is the only one to notice a group of strange lights dropping from the sky into the water, then Mariel disappears only to turn up in a swamp the next morning, seemingly unharmed but now with a strange affinity for water. Not so lucky is Dave, whose investigation of Rose's colored lights leads to the discovery that those lights have a pretty fierce set of teeth. And what does the sheriff have to hide? Parts of Invasion feel like The X-Files or 24, and obviously the central concept isn't new, but it has enough revelations and spooky chills to keep the viewer coming back for more. Unfortunately, even the plum slot following Lost wasn't enough to keep Invasion from being canceled after its first season. The problem is that the season--and the series--ends in a whopping cliffhanger, which may never be resolved. So before you invest yourself into a full season of Invasion, be warned. --David Horiuchi

2009-12-16 - I cant believe what has happened! I ordered the series from Netflix and lo and behold no ending. You left us all hanging and even my husband who started to watch it halfway through wanted to know what happened to the ending. You have all these others crappy shows such as Batchelor and the reality shows and pass on Invasion. It wa great acting and by the second disc I was calling people by their names and was so involved. Wnat have you done to the best show on T.V. Bring it back pleeeeeeeeeeese
when the going gets good, the exec's cancel the show 
2009-11-17 - I came across this series in the local library. I do not recall it being on television...probably because it lasted but one season.
There were a lot of sub-plots that were left hanging, that I was forced to wonder if they may have gone somewhere if the series had been continued beyond one season.
Basically the show is built on the idea that alien life forms have invaded the human species in the form of glowing, orange sting-rays that come down in massive shooting-star like fashion during hurricanes. These glowing sting-rays have invaded the small town of Homestead Florida, totally disrupting one dysfunctional family made up of the Sheriff (Tom), his doctor wife (Mariel), the doctor wife's x-husband/park ranger (Russ), his new wife/news reporter (Larkin), her blog-writing brother (Dave), and three children belonging to the couples (Kira, Jesse, Rose). These people seem to be the only ones aware that glowing orange sting-rays have taken over the bodies of town-members.
There are some really annoying reminders thrown in every other scene or so, as if we may have forgotten that Larkin is pregnant. Her character feels the need to blurt it out in turret's style fashion every few phrases or so, "I'm a pregnant woman!". All throughout the season there are blatant hints that the "offspring" of the EBE's (Extraterrestrial Biological Entities...which is a phrase I'm afraid will never replace the simple "E.T.s" of Speilberg's brain) are the REAL THREAT to the human race....by the way, the series ends before we ever meet the off spring of said EBE's.
Despite the little annoyances of sub-plots gone no where, the series was just beginning to take shape and start to get really interesting when it was cancelled at the end of season 1....with a huge cliff-hanger to leave those of us who are some-what twisted and occult-like in our enjoyment of the absurd, feeling betrayed and confused, when Larkin, our "I'm a pregnant woman!"-shouting supporting actress is tossed into the water for the glowing sting-rays to do with as they deem appropriate. We'll never know if she became a "hybrid" (which the show took the time to remind us in one episode, is NOT the car, but the combination of glowing sting-rays and human DNA) or if she was spit back onto land...and what happened to the baby she was carrying that had become the subject of constant reminders throughout the entire series, at least 6 times each episode? And what happened to the "litter" of offspring the hybrid women were apparently carrying....and I'm sure the series was leading toward the idea of a hybrid (Lewis) becoming sexually involved with young Kira at some point.
The main focus of the series was the offspring, yet we'll never know whether they're taking over the world as we know it or not.
My advice---watch out for glowing orange sting-rays falling out of the sky during huricanes!
Enjoy this series, though....but I wouldn't buy it. Just rent it, or like me, borrow it from your local library.
Mysterious, Sci-Fi, I want more!!
2009-11-01 - I did not expect much from this series, but was tremendously suprised. The character development is what really makes this such a winner. It makes you think and try to predict what is in store for the next episode and what this or that character is thinking and how they will deal with a problem or some new revealed information. The people are each tested to reveal their real intentions and nature whether they be sinister, peaceful, patient, wreckless, loving, or whatever. As you near the end of the episodes you know where most of them stand, but they are faced with challenge after challenge keeping you on the edge of your seat and the twists and turns get really going. There are 21 or so episodes and each has its own revelations and mysteries and keeps you wanting to view the next one, yes longing to view the next one, like you cannot wait to see it. Most, if not all of the building suspense is resolved in the last two episodes, but still you want more to see how the characters will cope and how they will interrelate. The acting and filming is first rate. Do not miss this hidden gem!
two hour movie stretched to make a series 
2009-10-18 - As a two hour movie the basic sci-fi concept might have worked, but it was apparently stretched, very thin, by filler to make a series. Lots of dead end sub plots which make the people of the area look like their drinking water is piped in from a lead mine. Real loser, do not waste your money.
Continue to be amazed... 
2009-09-26 - I found this set for $13 in a grocery store. I'd seen the entire series on rented DVDs but thought I'd buy it since it was so inexpensive. What a great decision! I was surprised at the quality of just about everything in this show. You know they're doing something right when they take a silly premise with some ludicrous plot points and transform it into an engrossing drama.
You may not even have to like science fiction to like this. It's just good drama... and I don't even enjoy TV! I haven't watched in 20 years but I've found a few great series on DVD. This is one of them. What a shame it fell through the cracks.
One aspect I love is characters often do unpredictable - but not unbelievable - things.
