Editorial Review:
For Our Children launched in 1990 and in many ways inspired the bounty of celebrity-philanthropy records for kids in its wake. From Bob Dylan and Sting to Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, and Elton John, the roster on this cornucopia of great kid songs--and even greater interpretations--has donated all proceeds to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Although tilted toward baby-boomer parents, the tracks have a timeless, ageless appeal. You'll be hard-pressed to find another five-star children's recording this satisfying, including the follow-up effort, For Our Children, Too. Little Richard rocks "Itsy Bitsy Spider," McCartney turns his sweet, melodic gifts toward "Mary Had a Little Lamb," and Bruce Springsteen makes a lively stew of "Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips." Other noteworthy moments include Jackson Browne and Jennifer Warnes doing the Beatles' "Golden Slumbers" and Carole King reprising the Disney Dumbo love theme, "Child of Mine." But surely the crowning touch is Dylan's unforgettable version of "This Old Man," phrased and delivered as only Dylan can with his mercurial invention and powerful character. This belongs in your children's collection. --Martin Keller
For Our Children: 10th Anniversary Edition Reviews:
a family heirloom
2009-06-17 - i adored this album as a child. i loved the familiar songs but was completely fascinated by the ones i didn't recognize. i sang 'garten mother's lullaby' by Meryl Streep to my baby brother and now i sing it to my two sons. I have searched high and low for this and am tickled pink to see it's available again! even if you've never heard heard this, buy it! you can NOT go wrong with this cd. it sticks with you!
Great for Scary Kids
2008-12-12 - Blueberry me without you there would be no berry pie, tell me why you can't see you are nesscary. Blueberry pie let have fun cause when all is said and done I love you I love you yes I do.
I love this song. As a little girl I would listen to it during bad weather to help me sleep. I am afraid to say that I still listen to during bad weather and I am 25 yearr old.
Glad to have it in CD version
2007-01-04 - I bought the original ten years ago and was disappointed when the cassette broke while playing. This is a fun CD for kids and adults alike. It is great to hear the stars sing our favorite childhood songs!
The most wonderful children's CD ever made
2006-08-29 - My family grew up with these songs, we have gone through multiple copies as they have been well worn & misplaced as we took them everywhere. I am so excited to find that there is an edition still availble as I raise my kids for them to fall in love with all the music from my childhood heart. I have sung more songs to them from off of this album than from anywhere else. I can't recommend this highly enough.
Great kids CD
2006-08-27 - Our son enjoys this and so do I. Some of the slow songs are a drag, but all in all it is great for kids.
