Elvis Christmas Reviews:
great christmas cd
2009-12-14 - this is a WONDERFUL christmas album and that is true whether you love elvis or not... I am not an elvis follower but i absolutely love to turn this on every day, it really brings the spirit of christmas to life :)
I noticed these flaws too!...
2009-12-12 - Just as the review by Bill Anthony states, most of Elvis' Christmas CD's have had one flaw or another, which most fans here either don't seem to notice or just don't care. I agree with you on this, Bill, and it drives me crazy when a simple thing like using the correct master just can't seem to be done right! Bill, you pointed out that the only time the correct masters were used was on the 1985 CD-reissue of the original "Elvis'Christmas Album". Well, that's very true...but on this CD, they added some studio chatter at the beginning of "White Christmas", with Elvis yelling "It's greek to me!" to someone in the studio! This completely spoils the entire Christmas mood for me. If RCA wanted to add extras like this to Elvis' Christmas songs, then they should have released this on some compilation CD, not on what is supposed to be the original Christmas LP from 1957! To this day, we still haven't seen a CD release of "Elvis' Christmas Album" EXACTLY as it was released on LP! Elvis' second album of Christmas songs,"The Wonderful World Of Christmas" has been tampered with in the past as well! "Merry Christmas, Baby" is missing James Burton's great guitar solo on some releases, and on others, this song was also edited! Why doesn't RCA simply release "Elvis'Christmas Album" and "The Wonderful World Of Christmas" as a double-album CD, featuring the original cover art for both LP's, and add the single "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" as a bonus track?! What could be better than that?!
Great Music, Flawed CD Collection (Again)
2009-11-16 - Like the recent CHRISTMAS PEACE collection, ELVIS CHRISTMAS (2007) contains an edited master of Silent Night, with the original piano-intro chopped off (and it's also missing the 1966 single "If Every Day Was Like Christmas", which is on virtually every other Elvis Christmas collection).
When RCA remastered and re-released the 1957 ELVIS CHRISTMAS ALBUM in 1985, they had all the right masters, but every "comprehensive" Elvis Christmas compilation since then has had one flaw or another. The most definitive, 1994's IF EVERY DAY WAS LIKE CHRISTMAS, had the "Christmas Message" version of Silent Night (which was created in 1982 for the album "Memories Of Christmas"). That was intentional, as it was listed that way on the cover. I can live with that, I guess. But, the CD "WHITE CHRISTMAS", from 2000, which had Elvis complete Christmas masters, also had the "Christmas Message" version of Silent Night instead of the original master. Then, the CD CHRISTMAS PEACE, from 2003, had the edited (no-intro) master of Silent Night, just as the new ELVIS CHRISTMAS does.
The normally outstanding work of Ernst Mikael Jorgensen and Roger Semon for RCA with Elvis' catalog has not been evident on this long string of Christmas compilations, although they produced all of them. What's the problem, guys? The correct master appeared on CD in 1985 and again on 1992's box-set THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL- THE 50'S MASTERS, and again on 1992's budget CD BLUE CHRISTMAS, and again on a Time-Life Elvis Christmas set in 2000. This CD claims to have "the complete repertoire from Elvis's two original Christmas albums". Nope.
So, this is now FOUR full-price RCA (Sony/BMG) Elvis Christmas CD compilations in a row that have the wrong master of Silent Night. How can you repeatedly make such an unacceptable mistake on such a familiar and important set of recordings, RCA?
That one song.
2009-09-27 - I bought this for one song, Oh Come All Ye Faithful. If you have never hear this rendition, I highly recommend it. Sounds just like angels singing.
elvis christmas
2008-12-29 - this was a very pleasing item to hear. Reminiscing
of what the king did for music was a complete thrill, I mean to be able to share these favorite tunes with family made it even more meaningful. Thank-you!
