2009-11-13 - THIS ITEM IS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. ELVIS' VOICE IS SO CLEAR AND ON SOME OF THE SONGS THEY ARE DONE DIFFERENTLY THAN ORIGINALLY RECORDED. I WOULD RATE THIS AS A NUMBER 10.

2009-11-12 - From Elvis in Memphis is Elvis Presley at his very greatest/highest level singing as a performer coming off the 68 comeback special, vibrant and full of pure intense energy, belting out soulful tunes with the outright highest level of performance, which was only attainable by the king of rock n roll Elvis Presley. Elvis stole songs from the greatest that's what made him the king of all music he could sing anything and everything and make music beyond special. Music is not just about the notes its about the personality and character of the individual people like tom jones and Wayne Newton did not have the depth, and energy in the performances that Elvis made popular from 1969 through 1977. With that being said "From Elvis in Memphis" is a classic album from beginning to end. To get a better understanding of the dedicated work ethic Elvis Presley had on this record [...] and check out the alternative versions of such classic's as "Wearin' That Loved On Look", "Only The Strong Survive", "True Love Travels On A Gravel Road", and "Anyday Now". They have multiple takes of these songs on YouTube which are very interesting to listen to especially for a greater understanding of the songs. Let's not forget the incredible musicians either that played with Elvis on this record and the famous producer. They were a truly unique dedicated team that made hit records in Memphis were this album was recorded. Highly Recommended!!!
Elvis: THE SERIOUS MODERN ARTIST
2009-11-01 - There are 3 types of Elvis fans: Those who like the FUN early stuff 50's to mid 60's; Those who like the SERIOUS later stuff (late 60's to his death); and those who like it all.
For those buying this expecting material that sounds like Hound Dog or Don't Be Cruel, you will be disappointed. This is Elvis in 1969 doing SERIOUS, more complicated material for an adult contemporary audience. THIS IS ALSO AMONG HIS BEST MATERIAL. Actually, this album is unique among all other elvis albums. Elvis never did material like this again or with this same texture. It was his return to serious music and one can hear in his voice that he was really showing a side to himself that had been dormant (if not undiscovered) previously.
While Elvis had most of his landmark fun songs in the 50s & early 60's, he had his serious, more vocally challenging songs in the 70's. Listen to his voice doing a ballad in 1955 (blue moon) vs My Way from 1977. Sounds like 2 different artists. His later voice (even beyond this album prior to his death) was that of someone with a range of an opera singer.
So, if you have never ventured into serious material, this is a place to start, however, I would recommend Elvis Thats The Way It Is (and seeing the documentary of the same name) before listening to this album. There needs to be a transition for some fans when they break away from the 50's stuff and mature into his later music.

2009-10-24 - The album is great. I never heard it before so I bought it with my eyes closed, because I'm a fan. From the first song I heard I said to myself "man I already like it". This album really rocks. It's even better than what most people say. It makes a great addition to my collection. It's a must have for any rock fan out there.
