Editorial Review:
Chart topping-and headline-making-rap artist Eminem shares his private reflections, drawings, handwritten lyrics, and photographs in his New York Times bestseller The Way I Am
Fiercely intelligent, relentlessly provocative, and prodigiously gifted, Eminem is known as much for his enigmatic persona as for being the fastest-selling rap artist and the first rapper to ever win an Oscar. Everyone wants to know what Eminem is really like-after the curtains go down. In The Way I Am, Eminem writes candidly, about how he sees the world. About family and friends; about hip-hop and rap battles and his searing rhymes; about the conflicts and challenges that have made him who he is today.
Illustrated with more than 200 full-color and black-and-white photographs-including family snapshots and personal Polaroids, it is a visual self-portrait that spans the rapper's entire life and career, from his early childhood in Missouri to the basement home studio he records in today, from Detroit's famous Hip Hop Shop to sold-out arenas around the globe. Readers who have wondered at Em's intricate, eye- opening rhyme patterns can also see, first-hand, the way his mind works in dozens of reproductions of his original lyric sheets, written in pen, on hotel stationary, on whatever scrap of paper was at hand. These lyric sheets, published for the first time here, show uncut genius at work. Taking readers deep inside his creative process, Eminem reckons with the way that chaos and controversy have fueled his music and helped to give birth to some of his most famous songs (including "Stan," "Without Me," and "Lose Yourself").
Providing a personal tour of Eminem's creative process, The Way I Am has been hailed as "fascinating," "compelling," and "candid."
The Way I Am Reviews:
AWESOME COOLNESS
2009-12-03 - Definitely a must-buy - whether you are a fan of Eminem, or a fan of hip-hop. It is interesting to read how Eminem becomes Eminem, Slim Shady, and Marshall Mathers - they are all expressing on the same person physically, but the thinking and the ideas behind these identities are completely different. Needless to say, captures/photos on the original lyrics that were written on papers by Eminem himself are priceless.
Eminem Book
2009-11-14 - Book is just what your looking for if your looking to go behind the scenes and learn about Eminem and how he lived his life before he became this mega star that we all know him as now! Great pics through out the book of him and his crew, family, and friends that you have never seen before. I really enjoyed the book and learned things about the greatest white rapper alive that you didn't learn from watching MTV or VH1 promise!
Wasn't impressed by Eminem Biography
2009-11-03 - I thought Eminem would be talking more about his life, growing up and finally giving some instight into his personal life, but instead its a book with alot of pictures that repeats itself over and over. The book took me a day to read thats how little actual writing is in it. If you want a book with alot of pics then this is good for you
Em
2009-09-24 - Very eye opening. Lots of pictures and words that just jump out at you. A very in-depth look into Eminem. A must have if your an Eminem fan. It has clippings of how he composes his rhymes and it's amazing. Artistry at its best from one of the best.
Great Book
2009-08-12 - I am a huge Eminem fan. I grew up on his music. Read through it in a few hours in one day. Studied the lyric sheets, the man has a twisted mind. Wished there was more stories and personal material. We all know about the hip hop shop and about Kim. I wanted stories of how he got ideas, how he made the songs, what stories were behind everything from Amsterdam and MMLP to The Eminem show and so on but didn't get much. All and all, great book, I wanted more personal related material though.
