Editorial Review:
2009 album from one of the most successful Rap artists in history. He's sold more albums than most Rock and Pop superstars. He's a Grammy winner. He's an Oscar winner. He's been on the cover of practically every music magazine since his debut album dropped in 1999. Now, 10 years after The Slim Shady LP, Eminem marks his 10th anniversary as a Hip Hop hurricane with Relapse, yet another skillful collaboration with Dr. Dre. Features the single 'Crack A Bottle' (which features Dre and 50 Cent).

Relapse Reviews:
3 WORDS. 4 Star Review
2009-12-20 - ........STAY WIDE AWAKE. THAT'S IT. THIS IS IN MY OPINION A TOP 5 SONG THIS GUY HAS EVER MADE. THE LYRICS, THE BEAT, YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR THIS GUY ON THIS MISSION ON THIS COLD NIGHT, AND IT'S JUST BRUTAL HOW THIS SERIAL KILLER TYPE IS THINKING AND FEELING. THIS SONG ALONE MAKES THIS ALBUM NOTHING LESS THAN EMINEM STILL ON TOP OF HIS GAME!!!

OTHER SONGS WORTH A+ RATING:

UNDERGROUND
OLD TIMES SAKE
3AM (SAY WHAT YOU WANT ABOUT THAT JAMAICAN VOICE HE USES, SONG IS SICK)
DEJA VU
BEAUTIFUL

AND IF YOU SAY IF YOUR OUT TO A CLUB AND CRACK A BOTTLE COMES ON YOUR NOT FEELIN IT, GET OUT OF HERE!!!!

EminEm 4 Star Review
2009-12-09 - EMINEM is one of the best rapper. But he was gone for 2 years but he came back and hit us hard. I like track 20 track underground because it talks about how poeple were stepping on his ego because he hadn't produced any album . but track 4 i don't like it because he talk about D****S in his head . Am a big fan i like all his song this album is good because it talking about him and how people step on him

Does not disappoint ! 5 Star Review
2009-12-05 - I had no idea what Eminem has been up to in recent years.....no idea he was getting off drugs, etc. Since I went through that, too..I relate.
About the CD..not knowing what to expect from this comeback one, yet counting on him to pull off a creative & entertaining CD...am thrilled to say it may be my favorite CD from him, to date!
NOT your typical hip hop or rap, this one..Though it is full of Em's typical humor, sadism and irony it is almost theatrical in a way. (I could imagine it as background music for movies, some of it, of course, horror movies...LOL)
He uses unique , almost middle eastern accents and lyrics....Bagpipes from Baghdad for example.
Somehow, he makes it work. I really do enjoy him without his friends, etc, joining him on songs. Since this CD has very little of other people in it, it makes it that much better for me.
There are beats I've never heard before and they are all very very catchy....I even threw my back out, dancing to it..
Hard to believe someone can sing about rape & murder and it manages to sound almost upbeat..I don't take those subjects lightly, trust that.
The lyrics are not for the squeamish. I feel like he is purging himself of his demons in this music and mine, too. I wish I could explain or critique the CD better but I am at a loss for words adequate enough.
If you've enjoyed any of his music before I would say you'll love this..
I am so happy to hear creative rap again.....so happy he doesn't fall into that same old song & dance.....LOL
I am amazed that he can be sober (?) and pull this off...amazed that his creativity has not waivered.
.....The King is back....and taking no prisoners.
The most original music I think I've ever heard.....thank you Shady/Eminem/Marshall......whoever you are.

BEST EMINEM RECORD (2nd only to Eminem show) 5 Star Review
2009-12-03 - How people can give this record 1 or 2 stars is beyond me.

If you're really an Eminem fan, I think you've gotta love this album.

True, he revisits some of the old subjects (his mother, Christopher Reeves, homosexuals, etc). But I think it wouldn't be Em if he didn't.

On the other hand, he enters quite a bit of new territory with this record as well.

At the end of the day, this is absolutely a 5-star effort, in my opinion. Eminem is a true artist and a lyrical genius. I could not LIVE without this album. This definitely dropped at the right time for me in my life.

I'll give "Crack a Bottle" and "We Made You" 4-stars. All the rest of the songs are PHENOMENAL and get 5 stars.

Man, I thought Encore was bad... 2 Star Review
2009-11-30 - First off, I have to say that Enlightened's review took the words right out of my mouth. Now then...

When Eminem had his first three major label albums out, they were so risqué and influential at the same time, so much so that I became an instant fan of his. But I don't know what was going on with Encore: the first few tracks were fine but everything else was garbage (including the bonus disc). Although Em did save face with "When I'm Gone" as well as with the Re-Up compilation, it appears that Relapse is a relapse of bad material.

The intro "Dr. West" (NOT about Kanye) is fine but therein also lays the problem: when the best track on your album is the intro, there's something seriously wrong (especially when the album is 76 minutes long). Em appears to be playing different characters on this album rather than rapping "realistically" via different voices (reviewer Steven said it best when he compared the voices to Triumph the Insult Comic Dog), but a bigger problem with that is that he appears to be using rehashed ideas from The Slim Shady LP, which, as I said in my review for Asher Roth's latest album, aren't very accessible any more. The best examples of this are the two-in-a-row of "My Mom" and the aptly titled "Insane", which seem to be based off of "Cleanin' Out My Closet" and "Brain Damage", respectively.

Another problem here is that Em seems to be using a chapter from the D12 playbook by using shock rap just for the sake of using shock rap; to the point that it's hard to remember that HE actually did that first. Not only that, but now the ploys seem more desperate than shocking. "Bagpipes from Baghdad" takes shots at onetime girlfriend Mariah Carey as well as Nick Cannon, while "Medicine Ball" has him mentioning the Pussycat Dolls and the late Christopher Reeve, of all people. And "Same Song & Dance" has him bizarrely donning the role of a serial killer.

Sadly, Em doesn't do very well when he tries to be normal either. Although even negative reviewers seem to like "Beautiful", that song didn't do anything for ME; and when I heard the three-in-a-row of "Stay Wide Awake", "Old Time's Sake" and "Must Be the Ganja", I was like, "WTF is he talking about?" "3 A.M." isn't very interesting either, but maybe someone should tell him that "3 A.M. in the morning" is redundant. And the idea of having an obligatory Paul Rosenberg skit is long past tired.

The only saving grace to this album is possibly "Crack a Bottle". Actually, the best song is on the deluxe version: the deep "Careful What You Wish For" (but I still don't understand why Em adds bonus tracks to albums that are ALREADY too long). I'm sure all the five-star reviewers have hit the "NO" button already, but I have to be honest and say that I have no idea what Eminem was trying to do with Relapse because a good album it isn't.
