Editorial Review:
On The Slim Shady LP, Eminem wants it all. He's conflicted, you see; the world has treated him badly, and he wants to respond in kind. But he isn't a straight-up gangsta--this is, after all, the first release on Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records, his post-Death Row-era venture--and Eminem (born Marshall Mathers) doesn't really want anyone to follow in his footsteps, which leads to some interesting contradictions on this album. In the first single, "My Name Is," he's self-deprecating, rapping about his poor upbringing and his hairy palms. But on the very next song, "Guilty Conscience," he plays the devil to Dr. Dre's angel--that is, until Eminem brings up an incident from Dre's devilish past, rapping, "You gonna take advice from someone who slapped Dee Barnes?" Later, on "'97 Bonnie & Clyde," he turns Will Smith's "Just the Two of Us" on its ear, making it a tale of murder; but on "My Fault," he actually feels bad--though whether it's for the girl he overdosed or for himself is tough to figure out. With his nasal Midwestern tone, Mathers has a clean, clear flow, and the production--by Dr. Dre, Marky, and Jeff Bass--is crisp but consistently fun. With his outlook, it's tough to take Eminem too seriously, but he's made an album you don't have to take seriously to enjoy. --Randy Silver

The Slim Shady LP Reviews:
Bad Editing!! 2 Star Review
2009-07-30 - I brought the edited and explicit version for all eminem albums; Slim Shady LP to Relapse. The editing on this album is terrible and I'm annoyed that it has the words reversed including the instrumental, when a bad word is said it just has seconds of silence meaning no background music and the thing I hate most is that the word S*** is still left in it. This album isn't fully clean at all, it's just badly edited. I don't mind the sound effects or word replacements for clean album but reversing and silence just ruins the song. Your better off getting the explicit version.

My Name Is - Word replacements and reversing - 2/5

Guilty Conscience - Reversing, sound effects and second silence (Music video version and clean version on "Curtain Call" uses word/line replacements, bad words getting removed while the beat is still playing and the non stop beat version for the chorus) - 1/5

Role Model - Reversing (Music video version uses sound effects) - 0/5

Just Don't Give - Reversing and sound effects (same as the music video version) - 3/5

Parental guidance 4 Star Review
2008-10-05 - I purchased this CD for my son who has become a huge Eminem fan. I loved that the vast majority of the curse words are bleeped although I am surprised by what does get through.

Ok 3 Star Review
2006-07-15 - The thing his first album is alright but the thing is the editing is really bad. Like for example On Ken Kaniff they keep in the s word but for some gay reason they take out the b word.
I mean they edit The Marshall Mathers Lp better than this. This more innapropreate Then the Marshall mathers lp is.

uh....just read the review 2 Star Review
2006-01-26 - Eminem is my second favorite rapper(Dr.Dre #1)and i'm NOT sayin this is a bad album,i'm just sayin it's weird. My Name Is,Role Model & Guilty Conscience are possibly the best tracks, and the rest are not so good to great, but weird.I don't know why,but it just dosen't feel like Em.The tracks have weird beats and lyrics...but overall, the album is good...I just gave it 2 stars because it's clean and the curseword blurtting is kinda annoying.I could've reviewed the dirty version, but I just wrote all of this text and I ain't backspacing it.

Clean....2 Stars

Dirty....4 Stars

i don't know 3 Star Review
