Editorial Review:
Emmy Rossum, the actress best known for her acting roles in `Phantom Of The Opera,' `Mystic River,' and `The Day After Tomorrow,' has her diversity validated with her release of debut album, Inside Out, Despite her being known primary as an actress, music has always played a major role in Emmy Rossum's life.
When she was seven years old, she was singing with the Metropolitan Opera, and by the time she was a teenager, she had auditioned, and won, the part of Christine in the film version of `Phantom of the Opera,' for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. Rossum recorded her new music with producer Stuart Brawley, with whom she co-wrote all of the songs, and it represents a showcase for her remarkable vocal range. "I feel a real emotional connection to these songs," she says. "It's a real expression of my innermost thoughts and feelings, hence the title Inside Out." "It's about finding a respite from all the craziness," says the performer about the song. "I wanted to create a kind of music that would allow me to use my voice as an instrument. I tried to discover the boundary of the human voice.
Inside Out Reviews:
Five Stars for Both Service and Product
2009-10-14 - 'Inside Out' is a beautiful album: fresh and easy to listen to. The music and lyrics really encapsulate her youthfulness and it seems like perfect listening for a gorgeous spring day. I'm also mightily impressed with how quickly my order arrived.
Not what I was expecting....
2009-08-27 - First off, Emmy is a beautiful and talented singer/actress. When I saw her in Phantom of the Opera I was blown away. Her voice was captivating to say the least. So I didn't hesitate to purchase this CD in hopes of hearing more. What I got was a CD full of Enya type sound affects and chorus that totaly cover over Emmy's voice. When a person has the type voice Emmy has (perfect), why would they even consider drowning it out? Overall, it just saddened me to not hear her quality voice with music added. Instead I heard noise with her voice somewhere in the background.
Not my kind of music
2009-07-05 - I loved her singing in the Phantom of the Opera and had hoped this would include some aria's too. Its a pop CD and I'm not into this type of music.
Really nice
2009-06-16 - I like Emmy Rossum....first heard her sing in Phantom of the opera and was looking forward to getting her CD, I was not disappointed, she has a lovey voice...and I have enjoyed the CD very much..nice song choices
A beautiful debut by a talented girl.
2009-05-01 - I am primarily a fan of Progressive Metal (Kamelot, Ayreon), but on occasion I am known to make random forays among other genres, and on one such occasion I was pleased to discover Inside Out by Emmy Rossum. Like most people, I was only aware of her as an actress, but I remembered liking her very much in The Phantom of the Opera, her voice as well as appearance.
Inside Out does remind me of Enya, but only in the way that the vocals are layered. The melodies and songs are very memorable, and while there isn't much experimentation in format, each song has its own personality.
Emmy's voice is quite lovely; so much so in fact that sometimes I wished the vocals weren't so layered and ethereal. As much as I like that sound, I was most pleased with the songs where her voice was less processed. The songs themselves have a haunting, melancholic atmosphere combined with thoughtful lyrics written by Emmy herself. Each song on the album is worth listening to, and there are none that I skip.
I am hoping that she is able to make another CD soon, and, in the meantime, I will be enjoying Inside Out and sharing it with my friends and family.
