Description of Eric Clapton - Unplugged:
This laid-back, live, intimate session featuring Eric Clapton's bluesy guitar playing is quite enjoyable--if a bit limited in scope. With little lighting and frills and a small group backing him up, Clapton picks up his acoustic guitar and leads the listener down memory lane. Clapton is clearly on his best behavior as he engages in minimal small talk with his audience and lets the music speak for itself. The erstwhile Yardbird and former member of Cream and Blind Faith riffs through some dozen-plus songs including "Before You Accuse Me," "Tears in Heaven," "Walkin' Blues," "Alberta," "San Francisco Bay Blues" (in which Clapton thankfully cuts loose a bit), and his great hits "Layla" (written for his ex-wife, Patti Boyd Harrison) and "Old Love," a standard that garnered big applause. But the simple set and sparse stage can barely contain the energy that fills the arena when Clapton launches into "Rollin' and Tumblin'," a raucous, rousing bit of blues that Clapton is certainly still up for. This video is primarily for Clapton's most ardent fans, providing some heartfelt, soulful instrumental prowess in addition to an aging British rocker singing the blues as well as a white guy can. --Paula Nechak

    Eric Clapton - Unplugged Reviews:
I want this on Blu Ray!!!! 5 Star Review
2009-09-23 - Eric Clapton Unplugged is a perfect concert in both performance and song selection for the unplugged genre! I hope that it will some day be released on the Blu Ray format...keep hope alive!!

A great concert on a weird DVD version 5 Star Review
2009-09-20 - I first had a cassette of this performance, then got a CD, then VHS and now, finally, DVD. It's a wonderful concert. I happen to love acoustic versions of rock songs when well done. Layla was a revelation; no screaming like an animal in pain, just a thoughtful take on immense pain. Tears In Heaven is heartbreaking, esp. when you know the story behind it. The blues stuff was the reason I bought it originally. This is what EC wanted to do all along, and I am very glad he did it, since he has since done more traditional blues, and less rock stuff. Thank you, Mr. Clapton.

I have to ask, though, about the DVD version I have. I finally turned it off after the show started over for the third time. How many times is it on there? And why is it repeated so many times? Is it in lieu of extras, to fill the space on the disc? Whatever. But they could at least have separated them into a menu, so you don't have to stop the DVD in the middle of playing. Very weird. This is one of the older side closure DVD cases; is there a newer pressing of this with a "keepcase" that only has the show on it once? I would buy it if there is such a thing.

Best Eric Clapton's concert DVD ever 5 Star Review
2009-09-11 - Of all the DVDs I've seen of Eric Clapton in concert, this is my favorite so far. I have rented the DVD previously, and I liked it so much that I had to own a copy. I also own a copy of the CD, but the quality sound of the DVD is far better. If you like Jazz, Blues or Clapton, this is a must see.

    Awsome 5 Star Review
2009-06-22 - Every note in its place, so delicate yet powerful, this is a masterpiece. The sound is very good 5.1 surround, lyrics available to sing along. perfect

The Forerunner Of 'Unplugged' Concerts 5 Star Review
2009-06-12 - This still ranks as one of Eric Clapton's best and most pleasant "concerts."

I remember seeing this when it was first televised on TV. Later, it was a pleasure to get it on DVD after watching it on tape for several years. The concert always is enjoyable to watch and listen to, no matter many times I view it.

This is a nice mellow-sounding concert and most of the songs grow on you. It's presented in such a classy form that it provides something different: blues/rock 'n roll in a quieter format. This was so successful that other performers copied it with their "unplugged" concerts.

There are many familiar faces with Clapton here and I particularly enjoyed Chuck Leavell on keyboard. On "Old Love," he gives one of the better piano solos I've ever heard. Leavell is best-known as the keyboard man for the Rolling Stones. Meanwhile, percussionist Ray Cooper is the most fun guy to watch. It's doubtful a drummer ever had as much fun as he does in concerts, especially when he's showing off with the tambourine.

All the band members from Clapton on down look like nice guys who are thoroughly enjoying themselves in this concert.....and it shows in the music.
