Description of Jimi Hendrix (Deluxe Edition):
If any artist deserved a hagiography it was Jimi Hendrix, and Joe Boyd's 1973 "authorized" tribute adequately sanctifies the legend. Perversely for a documentary, it achieves this simply through well-chosen concert footage rather than through the insights of the various talking heads. Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, and Germaine Greer are all wheeled out to wax lyrical about their days with Jimi, but nothing is more eloquent than watching and listening to him play. From "Hey Joe" in grainy black and white on the Ready Steady Go TV show, classic footage of Monterey, Woodstock (yes, "The Star-Spangled Banner"), and the Isle of Wight festivals to an acoustic 12- string rendition of "Hear My Train a' Comin'," Hendrix the musician speaks for himself.

But if Hendrix the musician shines through, this is not the most insightful profile of Hendrix the man. The circumstances surrounding his death, for example, are hardly touched upon (girlfriend at the time Monika Dannemann gets only a few seconds of screen time). Interview footage with Hendrix himself plus some occasionally rambling and incoherent comments from such intimates as his father, army buddies, ex-girlfriends (including Linda Keith, who "discovered" him in New York and brought him to England), and fellow musicians all take second place to the music itself. The most sensible quote comes from Little Richard, who proves once and for all that he's utterly bonkers when he says of Jimi's music: "At times he made my big toes shoot up into my boot." --Mark Walker, Amazon.co.uk

    Jimi Hendrix (Deluxe Edition) Reviews:
The best biopic of the best guitarist ever!! 5 Star Review
2009-06-11 - This documentary is a very comprehensive biopic of the legendary Jimi Hendrix. There are no concert performances of complete songs here, at least not very many, just mostly clips. However, there are plenty of concert videos of Hendrix available, so this DVD is more info-based in nature, and meant to be a complement to the many full-length concert videos of Hendrix that you can buy. The info here is very interesting--the interviews are in-depth and fascinating. Also, this movie was made in 1973 or '74, so the recollections of various other legendary music figures featured here are obviously going to be rather fresh and accurate.

The VHS version of this movie was great already, but the DVD version is even better! A lot more interviews are included as bonus features, and 5.1 surround sound has been added to the concert footage. Unlike some DVD transfers from VHS, nothing has been omitted or cut from the VHS version--just lots of things added! A must have for every Hendrix fan or fans of rock music in general!!

    Exceeded Expectations! 5 Star Review
2009-02-05 - Product arrived within three days of ordering it! Packaging was sturdy and dependable; ensured that it arrived in great condition!

Jimi is Great! 4 Star Review
2009-01-26 - As someone who has loved Jimi Hendrix since I was in college in the 1960s, this was a great movie. The interviews with people who knew Jimi were fascinating, but the scenes of him playing in concert were priceless! It is worth buying the DVD just to see him perform "Johnny B. Good." That clip alone lets you understand how effortlessly Jimi could make a guitar do anything he wanted, and the close ups of his hands moving on the instrument are unbelievable. I think this movie would appeal to old timers like me, as well as younger people who might want to learn about this legendary performer.

Trash.......even You could make a better Jimi movie using Youtube clips 1 Star Review
2008-12-20 - This is my 2nd review...Amazon deleted my fist one for foul language.
I bought this movie way back in 1987 when it was on VHS, it was horrible then and still is today.
The video clips are really bad, they couda done way better in their selections.
The interviews are even worse, except for Little Richard because he's crazy and very funny.
Very cheapy put together and edited, just bad. That one chick Faye must have said "you know" over 100 times, maybe someone outta count for fun some day.
The new added BONUS features are better than this whole 1973 film, for that, its prob worth the purchase price.
I could find video clips on the internet and come up with a better Jimi documentry.
For a good DVD of Jimi, get "Wild Blue Angel - Isle of Wight" released in 2002
