Description of Wuthering Heights (MTV, 2003):
With MTV and Emily Bronte in the credits of this television movie, one's expectations are automatically set at a realistic level. This is a teen-angst version of Bronte's star-crossed novel, with lots of cute young people and heavy breathing. Luscious Erika Christensen plays Cathy, who grows up alongside the rough, passionate Heath (Mike Vogel), a lost boy who wants only to play his kind of rock & roll. The fates, of course, will not allow their true love to blossom, although they allow quite a few of his songs to get on the soundtrack. Some genuinely spectacular seaside locations (in Puerto Rico) form the backdrop for the creaking dialogue and Jim Steinman's typically melodramatic music. It's pretty grisly unless you're 14 years old and cherish "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Cultural note: Aimee Osbourne, the Ozzy daughter who opted out of the Osbournes series, takes a small role. --Robert Horton
Wuthering Heights (MTV, 2003) Reviews:
Love this movie!
2009-04-08 - I absolutely love this movie. I saw it on MTV late at night once and I fell in love. I wanted to see it again but my local video store and blockbuster didn't have it so I bought it off Amazon. Mike Vogel is gorgeous and the music he sings/plays is amazing as well. You will fall in love. And it WILL make you cry.
Loved it
2008-12-11 - I loved this movie, and the soundtrack. Of course this movie isn't accurate to the book a great deal because it is a modernized version meant to entertain the MTV generation. This movie is made for that purpose only so if you go into this movie expecting a good love story and to be entertained, then you will enjoy it.
Don't compare it to the book, just watch it!
2008-11-05 - I LOVED THE MOVIE! and it's the only reason I want to read the book. People should stop comparing this to the book because it is a movie. Movies almost never live up to a book, so stop acting so shocked! This was an MTV interpretation of the book for a younger viewing audience. I watched it it on MTV, the first time it aired and it made me cry. I think I was 18 and I'm so glad to see they now offer a DVD. If you are in your teens or 20's, I think you'll enjoy the movie. =)
Really pretty lackluster
2008-01-13 - If you're a fan of any of the traditionally-told Wuthering movies, you might think an update for the story is an interesting idea. And it might be. Sadly, this attempt is so poorly written and revamped so greatly that it becomes a bland mashup of the original material and whatever was popular on MTV circa 1993. Most offensive...well, it would be a tie between the oversimplified and overly dramatic dialogue, ("If you left me I would kill you!" "I don't know who my parents are, I don't know!!!") and the mediocre music which has been forced uncomfortably into the storyline. Even if you stripped away the name and pretended it had nothing to do with Wuthering Heights (easy enough to do), it's still pretty pointless and painful to watch.
HEATH IS SO LOVING
2007-07-24 - HIS LOVE FOR CATE IS SO SPECIAL !! HE SHOWS HOW STRONG HIS LOVE IS , EVEN THOUGH CATE SOMETIMES DON,T KNOW WHAT SHE WANTS , SHE REALLY ALWAYS LOVED HEATH.
