Editorial Review:
Californian Etta James decided against accepting filmmaker Martin Scorcese's personal invitation to sing at The Blues gala in New York in early 2003. The well-celebrated soul and blues queen makes amends here with what is one of the most blues-centered recordings in her expansive discography, bringing her big, no-nonsense voice and her feisty, proud woman's point of view to bear on classics, many identified with Chicago. The likes of Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightnin'," Jimmy Reed's "Hush Hush," and Muddy Waters's "Got My Mojo Working" may be hackneyed choices, but she seizes each of a dozen as her own, and clearly, as she says herself, these are the blues songs that touch her the deepest. No argument here. --Frank-John Hadley

Blues to the Bone Reviews:
reckonimokie 5 Star Review
2009-10-04 - Get down blues, excellent! I hope she makes some more CD's of this type of blues.

Best damn blues album ever...bar none 5 Star Review
2009-06-23 - I've been an Etta James fan for forty plus years and I was completely blown away by this album. There is an earthiness, a maturity to Etta's voice that is unlike anything she's ever done before. The band matches Etta note for note with that same down to earth maturity & full throated rhythm....just a phenomenal album all the way around...Atta girl, Etta.

Blues to the Bone 5 Star Review
2008-04-14 - I am a huge BLUES fan, but it is hard to find in my area, so I buy a lot of "BLUES" CDs. Although Keb" Mo is probably one of my favorites, I have played the Etta James CD all the way to work and back (60miles/day) every day since I received it from Amazon, and still not tired of her rich voice.

not Etta's best 2 Star Review
2008-02-08 - Despite the title, this is not Etta's best blues performance. When she's hot she's hot. This stuff is pretty perfunctory.

She is the Queen Of Blues Without A Doubt !! 5 Star Review
2008-01-05 - I have just listened to her CD, Blues To The Bone, and she is as phenominal as ever!!
I`m in no way an expert of the Blues, but I know what I like.
There is no way you can listen to this CD, and not move to the music!
She proves, once again, that she is the Queen of Blues!!
God Bless you Miss Etta!!!
