Editorial Review:
Prepare for edge-of-your-seat thrills with the latest and most chilling chapter in the popular series based on CHILDREN OF THE CORN by master of horror, Stephen King! Six college students take a wrong turn and find themselves lost in a strangely deserted rural town ... only to discover that this deceptively quiet place hides a murderous cult of children controlled by evil forces! Yet even as bodies begin cropping up all around them, the young friends decide to stay and rescue the children ... or die trying! Don't miss CHILDREN OF THE CORN V: FIELDS OF TERROR -- the shockingly entertaining sequel that delivers nonstop, big-scream fun!
Children of the Corn 5 - Fields of Terror Reviews:
Eva Mendes dies in this one, shes retarded
2009-11-07 - Im Eva Mendes number one fan. Lord Knows. And she dies in this one dude, why she dive in the fire of flames? I have know idea, what an idiot. Sorry Eva I love you but what an idiot performance. I hate movies where you die girl, I love you.
David Carradine,Shaft, & Alexis Arquette in one hilarious horror
2009-07-09 - Surprisingly this is Sid's first entry into the Children of the Corn series. Over the years we've seen bits and pieces of these films, but never sat down to watch one through. Our first attempt was a pretty sad one since we caught Children of the Corn 5 on tv and thought why not? It just seems as if there is no change to the premise except gradually making it worse and worse to the point of no return. We happen to be very devout b horror fans and thought it was pretty hilarious, but can understand some thinking it's just terrible.
The film happened to have an all star b cast with Shaft, David Carradine, Alexis Arquette (George from The Wedding Singer, and Eva Mendez's starring in her first flick. Luckily for her (and us) this seemed to have the same effect it did for Jennifer Aniston in Leprechaun spawning a very successful career in actual movies. The premise for our laugh fest happens to start with six college students who wind up getting lost in a deserted town. They come to find this town is plagued by a group of little kids controlled by an murderous evil force. The lead kid is this little redhead, who had to be in some TGIF show long ago, and is simply hilarious. He plays the ultimate evil force standing at 4'5" and is sooooo far from scary. To some this may lead you to dislike the film, for us it added 10x the enjoyment. Despite all the murders the college kids decide to stay around and try to save some of the kids who are under the evils control.
Overall the film was really bad in that good sort of way Sid just can't get enough of. The scene where Shaft and Carradine face off was one of the most memorable for us. Children of the Corn 5 just happens to make it in our favored time of 90's horror by 2 years, and certainly gets the green light from us. Just be clear that we're recommending it to those who enjoy a nice hilarious low budget horror and not to the avid horror fanatic. For the true Children of the Corn followers we'd imagine this one was a real joke.
More like Fields of Terrible...
2009-05-04 - The fifth chapter in the relentless Children of the Corn series offers nothing particularly new in the way of horror, or the series itself.
A group of college age kids are traveling through rural Nebraska to lay a fallen friend's ashes to rest when they encounter the titular children. According to the local yokels, the children have all been adopted by a local hermit of sorts who preaches the wonders of "he who walks behind the rows" to them. It occurs to one of the main characters that this is the very same cult her brother left home to join years back. So instead of heading home to certain safety, she decides to take on the cult and rescue her brother from their savage and sacreligious ways. The typical havoc ensues.
There's not a whole lot to say here if you've seen any of the other CotC movies. It reprises the "he who walks behind the row" story that they ditched in the previous chapter, which is a good move. However with its lack of any real continuity from previous outings, Fields of Terror more or less amounts to a very bad reimagining of the original movie. Also Kane Hodder and David Carradine make brief appearances here, proving just how badly they both needed a paycheck in 1998. This is one strictly for the hardcore fans of the series, and even they would probably admit that it's getting pretty tired.
College Massacre
2007-12-07 - ''Children of the Corn 4 - The Gathering'' is without a doubt, a brutal HORROR & GUT movie.
''Children of the Corn 5 - Fields of Terror'' was not as much of a horror movie, or as gory and gutty as number 4, but it was still a decent movie.
This on probably has the most common actors in it like Eva Mendez, Alexis Arquette, Dave Carridean ( Hope spelled It Right ).
As I said, CotC 4 was the best horror related CotC movie, but 5 is probably like the second or third. The thing about this movie is that, there was no plot to it, it wasn't about anything really.
Most of the deaths in this movie were caused by fires or electrocutions. The kid in this movie Ezequiel ( Adam Wylie ) was younger than most of the CotC preachers.
The farmer that gets killed at the very beginning was the preacher in number six.
This was an okay CotC
Yeah, I'm biased - so sue me
2007-11-04 - Before I start getting complaints--or at least dumbfounded looks--from people who strongly disagree with my rating, I should explain a number of ways in which I'm biased here:
* I'm an easy date when it comes to horror films in general--as long as they're technically competent, they're almost guaranteed a 5 out of 10 from me.
* I have a soft spot for long-running series. The more horror films the better if you ask me, and never-ending series seem to agree with me.
* I'm a HUGE Frank Zappa fan, so the excitement of seeing both Ahmet and Diva Zappa in the same film--and with a bit of Frank-like blow-up doll action, no less--brings my score up a notch. (My only question is why didn't they have Diva's character kill Ahmet's character?)
* As soon as Eva Mendes appears onscreen, I fall in love and become hypnotized. By the way, great decision on the wardrobe, Mr. Wiley.
* I'm a big fan of "B-movie" warhorses like David Carradine and Fred Williamson.
And aside from those biases, this isn't at all a bad film, even if it can be a bit predictable. It's consistent with the Children of the Corn mythos--in so far as the mythos makes sense in general--and also extends it nicely. I can't say whether the film is scary, as I don't really find that quality in any film, but it certainly was entertaining, and the Teflon coating on the main protagonist, Allison (Stacy Galina) was an unusual touch.
