    Description of Hitch (Widescreen Edition):
Will Smith's easygoing charm makes Hitch the kind of pleasant, uplifting romantic comedy that you could recommend to almost anyone--especially if there's romance in the air. As suave Manhattan dating consultant Alex "Hitch" Hitchens, Smith plays up the smoother, sophisticated side of his established screen persona as he mentors a pudgy accountant (Kevin James) on the lessons of love. The joke, of course, is that Hitch's own love life is a mess, and as he coaches James toward romance with a rich, powerful, and seemingly inaccessible beauty named Allegra (Amber Valetta), he's trying too hard to impress a savvy gossip columnist (Eva Mendes) with whom he's fallen in love. Through mistaken identities and mismatched couples, director Andy Tennant brings the same light touch that made Drew Barrymore's Ever After so effortlessly engaging. As romantic comedies go, Hitch doesn't offer any big surprises, but as a date movie it gets the job done with amiable ease and style. --Jeff Shannon

    Hitch (Widescreen Edition) Reviews:
The "Date Doctor's" Successes with Single Men, and Then the "Malpractice" 5 Star Review
2008-08-31 - In this comedy, Hitch, the "date doctor", helps discouraged single men connect with women. He doesn't just advise them--he hangs around and monitors their performance. He begins by saying that women don't really mean it when they say that they are just into their careers, etc. He coaches men according to the principle that most communication is through body language. For instance, he tells men that, when a woman wants no kiss at the end of the date, she just takes out her keys and opens the door. But when she does want a goodnight kiss, she fiddles around with her keys. That is the signal for men to watch for.

The "date doctor' succeeds with even seemingly-impossible cases. Albert, a taciturn, nerdy, heavyset, completely-bumbling fellow, gets dates with no less than Allegra, a popular beauty queen. Spectators can't believe it. In time, this makes it into the tabloids, provoking such a furious response in Albert that he trashes the store carrying the tabloids and gets himself arrested.

Hitch's own girlfriend is Sara, who is highly cynical of men in general. She reacts with contempt when she learns of the very existence of a "date doctor", and then is furious with Hitch when she learns that he is in fact the one. She even throws things at him. Sara and the other women feel manipulated at the thought of their men's actions having been coached come-ons, not genuine romantic expressions.

So Hitch's world seems to fall apart. The heartaches are unbearable. Can Hitch win back Sara? Will Albert get Allegra back? At the end of the movie, Hitch makes a statement that is very ironic in view of what he had been saying all along about men, dating, and women.

    Great movie!! 5 Star Review
2008-05-27 - Hilarious movie that my husband and I enjoy watching together. One of the few romantic comedies that is not filled with language and sexuality. We received this DVD promptly, and in excellent condition.

You'll Fall in Love with This Movie 4 Star Review
2008-05-01 - Alex Hitchens, "Hitch" to his friends (Will Smith), has a wonderful job. He helps men get the women of their dreams by giving them dating tips and arranging situations where they can meet their current crushes. Dubbed the "Date Doctor," Hitch operates by word of mouth.

His latest client is Albert Brennaman (Kevin James), a nerdy accountant who is deeply in love with socialite Allegra Cole (Amber Valletta). Even though Albert is way out of Allegra's league, Hitch begins to work his magic.

Meanwhile, Hitch has met society columnist Sara Melas (Eva Mendes) and is doing his best to win her. Sara is a tough cookie to crack, however, because her job reporting the break ups of others has made her extremely cynical. Sara's pursuit of Allegra and Albert only makes things worse. Will anyone find true love?

I'm sure if I describe this romantic comedy as predictable, it won't come as any surprise to you. I had the ultimate ending figured out long before the story really got going. However, I was left wondering how exactly they'd reach that outcome.

Even more importantly, the journey along the way was fun. While I didn't laugh as much as my friends, I was often smiling when I wasn't cringing. I'm not a fan of comedy from embarrassment, and that's some of the humor here. However, watching Hitch in action is fun. He is so smooth it is remarkable.

Finally, the characters made me care about the outcome. Sara was the only one it was hard to warm up to, and by the end I cared for her, too. The acting was great, which really helped.

This is one of those rare romantic comedies that everyone seems to enjoy. So if you are looking for a light film, give this one a chance.

Very Funny Romantic Comedy 4 Star Review
2008-01-25 - It really has become noticable to professionals in the film industry and his legion of fans across the world, that Will Smith, since his role in "Six degrees of Separation", (1993) in the role of Paul, a brilliant performance, and Independence Day (1996) as Captain Steven Hiller, this energized and gifted actor cannot set a foot wrong. Smith's latest release in the adaptation of Richard Matheson's novel, "I am Legend", is absolutely extraordinary. However, "Hitch" (2005), reveals Smith's versatility as a comedic and dramatic actor. Hitch is a light a breezy romantic comedy about an anonymous "date doctor" who teaches nerds to get the women they desire. His tecniques work every time, until he meets a gossip jounalist, Sara Melas, (Eva Mendes) who presents a challenge for this charming "woman expert".

There are some very funny scenes in this film, including the dance scene, where Albert Brennerman (Kevin James) shows Hitch his knowledge of dances, all particulary lame and so funny, this had audiences falling off their seats with laughter.

My only criticism of this very funny film is I believe Eva Mendes' performance slightly strained as if she was trying just a little too hard, almost appearing to be over the top.

In terms of plot, this is a typical boy meets girl film with a joyful ending, but what makes it is Will Smith and Kevin James, a great and unexpected brilliant comedy team.

    Good Fun.

GOOD movie, GOOD blu-ray quality. 4 Star Review
2008-01-14 - I thought this movie was very funny. The story was interesting enough to keep me interested. I've always thought that Will Smith is a great actor. The blu-ray quality was good, not great.... but good. It had some grainy scenes and i wasn't too fond of the contrast levels.

oh well, bought it for 19.99 and i'm glad i did.
