Editorial Review:
The follow-up to their Multi-Platinum Debut Featuring the hit single "Call Me When You're Sober"
Description of The Open Door:
There's nothing like a breakup to focus your muse. This follow-up to the stunning, multi-platinum Fallen was penned as singer Amy Lee's troubled romance with bandmate Ben Moody was spiraling out of control, impelling her to craft an anxious record full of recriminations, revelation, and self-flagellation, as she questioned everything that kept her whole. It's a fascinating journey for the listener as she ventures into her own personal heart of darkness, her stricken, perfect voice suspended on an unsteady precipice between breakdown and breakthrough. Despite the loss of two members, including guitarist Moody who left mid-tour in 2003, the album has a maturity, sophistication, and a singular vision that wasn't found in their earlier work. Stately and as exotic as Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, with its intricate instrumentation, disturbing imagery, and disembodied chorus, The Open Door shows exactly what this band is capable of. "Snow White Queen" is a goth-y alternative to Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together," equally anthemic, but with much more grit and pain. --Jaan Uhelszki
The Open Door Reviews:
This album freakin' ROCKS!!
2009-10-16 - I am officially a die hard Evanescence fan now. This album is better than the other ones, bringing back the same sound and interesting lyrics as before - but 100 times better. As always, Amy Lee and the band kick butt.
This album is filled with good music. There isn't a single one I dislike. At first I didn't care for a few songs, but after hearing them a few times, I was hooked.
The best song on the album in my opinion is "The Only One," of which I had never heard before listening to the album. Definitely an overlooked piece of work. The album includes hits such as "Call Me When You're Sober," "All That I'm Living For," "Sweet Sacrifice," "Lithium," and "Good Enough."
For those of you who have never heard of Evanescence, they are a metal/rock band like no other, with a very disticnt sound, best known for putting the piano in a lot of their rock music as well as the vocalist Amy Lee's voice. If you prefer softer music, I would suggest that you purchase their first album "Fallen".
For those of you who DO know who Evanescence is - BUY THIS ALBUM!!!
Not as rocking as "Fallen", but still an great CD.
2009-10-14 - I just recently heard of Evanescence....(Yes I have been living under a rock!), but anyway I digress. I ordered "Fallen" a few weeks ago, enjoyed it so much I ordered this CD and got it yesterday. Listened to it 3 times so far, great CD. Overall not as rocking as "Fallen", but Amy Lee is still awesome!
I would have to say, "Good Enough" is my favorite song on this CD....Amy's beautiful voice brings tears to my eyes. I wish they were in concert somewhere!!!
Evanescence "The Open Door" = An Outstanding "Hard Rocking" CD of Amy Lee (from Arkansas) & her band = 100% GREAT ROCK!!!!!!!
2009-09-12 - Outstanding!!! This is an excellent studio CD of Amy Lee & Evanescene. It's good solid, hard-rocking music, and Amy is a beautiful, outstanding lead singer, and front Woman.
The line-up is as follows:
Amy Lee - lead vocals, piano
Terry Balsomo - guitar
John LeCompt -guitar
Will Boyt - Bass
Rocky Gray - Drums
The songs are as follows:
1.Sweet Sacrifice
2.Call Me When You're Sober
3.Weight of the World
4.Lithium
5.Cloud Nine
6.Snow White Queen
7.Lacrymosa
8.Like You
9.Lose Control
10.The Only One
11.Your Star
12.All That I'm Living For
13.Good Enough
Overall, this is one great "hard-rocking", outstanding album cd by Amy Lee & Evanescene. If you like Rock, you should love this one, and I highly recommend it. Thanks!!!!
worst
2009-09-06 - this album is worst ever produced, and this album no where near better then the first.
full of poor pitty me feeling
if this best this artist produces then the best days are behind them
Better then here first album
2009-08-25 - If you liked the first Evanescence you will love this one, it was better then the first. Also try out the other suggested artists when you order, it regularly does a good job matching to another artist you will like.
