    Description of Black Hawk Down:
Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down conveys the raw, chaotic urgency of ground-force battle in a worst-case scenario. With exacting detail, the film re-creates the American siege of the Somalian city of Mogadishu in October 1993, when a 45-minute mission turned into a 16-hour ordeal of bloody urban warfare. Helicopter-borne U.S. Rangers were assigned to capture key lieutenants of Somali warlord Muhammad Farrah Aidid, but when two Black Hawk choppers were felled by rocket-propelled grenades, the U.S. soldiers were forced to fend for themselves in the battle-torn streets of Mogadishu, attacked from all sides by armed Aidid supporters. Based on author Mark Bowden's bestselling account of the battle, Scott's riveting, action-packed film follows a sharp ensemble cast in some of the most authentic battle sequences ever filmed. The loss of 18 soldiers turned American opinion against further involvement in Somalia, but Black Hawk Down makes it clear that the men involved were undeniably heroic. --Jeff Shannon

Where Are the Dead Somalis? 4 Star Review
2008-08-12 - This is a well made film with compelling visuals shot in Africa, very good sound effects that depict the deadly noises of combat and a tight storyline.

The film, like the book, fails to depict the numbers of Somalis killed in the fighting. Large numbers of Somali civilians died in the US v. Aidid militia combat. Aidid's militia wore no uniforms and mingled amidst civilians, but massive US firepower did kill many innocents.

The gruesome dragging of dead US servicemen received and continues to receive attention but the dead Somalis are basically invisible. Ridley Scott does present a few scenes of Somali suffering, such as the opening shot where starving villagers are shot up by a Technical .50 Cal, a young boy accidentally zaps his gun wielding father and a Somali man cradling a dead child walks by a retreating US HummVee.

A famous war cameraman, whose name I can't remember, stated in interviews that huge numbers of Somali elders and children perished under US air strikes and that led to the murder of an American cameraman.

    Somalia 5 Star Review
2008-08-07 - Based on an actual operation, the action is intense. Very reallistic effects, and well acted. It really makes you feel for the soldiers who are asked to carry out such operations. I am glad they have this film to tell their story.

Black Hawk Down is a winner! 5 Star Review
2008-07-26 - The movie Black Hawk Down, which follows the Army Rangers and Delta Forces the Clinton Administration left in Mogadishu, Somalia, in the 1990s. Based on true events, the movie retells the horrific events that led to the US military's most embarrassing and violent battle of that decade. The film is incredible in every aspect, including the cast, the production, the realistic environments and the enthralling battles. Everything looks spectacular in Blu-Ray high definition, especially the battles. This movie is not only an incredible one to watch, but also is of important significance to the American people and ought to be watched.

Very good movie 5 Star Review
2008-07-23 - As the commentator who knows how to assess evidence of war films (and narratives: cf. Listmania on my list "Vietnam War"), modern (ie from the Vietnam War) and ancient (World War II ), I loved this film.

The territory of the conflict that is still relevant to tribal rivalries against the backdrop of Islamism and corruption. The UN mandate in Somalia has unfortunately not changed the situation.

The deployment of American forces is typical of those used in current conflicts (Iraq for example) with this spirit of superiority owned by the youth: little culture, a humanistic vision and invincibility. This vision will be shocked.

The solidarity of brothers in arms is clear and honor is given to the two SEALS who sacrificed their lives to save a helicopter pilot wounded. They received the Medal of Honor by the US Congress.

    Very good movie.
